re: OT Docs - Question about Sepsis and Dialysis

They usually start them on CRRT if thier Bp is too low. Once they are stable enough they'll start conventional dialysis.
I seen someone go into kidney failure, start CRRT, place a perma port for dialysis then thier kidneys bounced back and the port was never used.
Eta: I hate kidneys. Those bitches always seem to be the first to shut down.

They aren't maypops. We use to eat maypops. I don't know anyone that eats these.
Does anybody know what these are called?

Usually found in the cane field growing on a vine.
Thanks you. For some reason that was difficult for the other posters.

No she doesn't have cancer, but she is being treated with chemo. And the burn is not from radiation. We were just trying to find a hospital that would be able to treat the wound like burns plus deal with everything else she is going through.

Should have known I would get a bunch of stupid answers.
We trying to figure out what would be the best route to go for someone who is suffering from burn like wounds and is immunosuppressed plus other complications. Burn units won't be able to handle all that.
And when you exhaust every other avenue for info, sometimes you get desperate.

Does anybody know of any hospitals that would be able to treat a burn victim that is suffering from a type of cancer?
I'm Going through something similar right now. I know you might not want to talk to a stranger, but if you need anything just let me know.
Main thing is to stay strong around her, don't be afraid to break down when alone. Helps if you can find someone to talk to. There will be many ups and downs and times when you will feel like there is just no hope, but just don't give up. The journey will be long and it will sometimes feel like there's no end in sight but y'all will beat it.
Stay strong, she needs you.

Yeah, cuz this just sounds like a good story to make up. Idiot
She's 21. Went to doctor about a week ago because she had a high fever. Tested for strep and came back negative. They call back 2 days later saying she in fact does have strep, so they give her antibiotics. Started feeling better. Then Friday comes around and her fever gets up to 105, can barely walk, hives/rash, joint pain, so we rush her to hospital.
Friday evening they diagnosis her with rheumatic fever(which apparently is rare cuz they had all kinds of doctors and medical students coming in taking pics)Give her antibiotics. Body doesnt respond
Saturday morning comes around still high fever and aches everywhere so they put her in icu. Run all kinds of test and cultures and everything keeps coming back negative. Put her on all kinds of antibiotics and her body just wasn't responding. Fluid started developing in lungs and around heart. Kidneys weren't functioning like they should. Started discussing organ failure.
Gave her some steroids, and temp came down, blood pressure back to normal but still can't figure out what's causing infection
It's been a roller coaster of emotions. Yesterday the head doctor actually used the words "getting better" which was a huge relief because she never really gave any positive news. She always basically just said that "they are doing their best."
Then around 12 today, the doctors come in saying her lungs and heart have fluid around them again. Gave her another dose of steroids. Did another scan(forget what it was called) about and hour or so ago and the fluid around her heart is gone and her lungs just have a little dampness in them.
Still waiting on some cultures and a skin biopsy, but up until now they still have no official diagnosis, so they can't really treat it. They have discussed valley fever being she recently made a trip to Arizona to watch lsu softball, lupus, septic shock syndrome, toxic shock syndrome. Just wish they could find something. It's been the most difficult week I've experienced. She's sleeping now and all her numbers look good, so there is some positive news.

My girlfriend is in icu Update: 6/12

I don't post much, but my gf got put into icu with an unknown infection. Just wanted some extra prayers
Update: yes she is intubated. They are looking to take her off it soon. But they don't want to do it before they are positive she won't need it again. They placed her on some temporary dialysis to help her kidneys drain all the fluid collecting in her body. Her heart and lungs are getting stronger. She still has spikes in her fever every so often.(up to 101.5) All they have her on right now is some blood pressure medicine and anxiety medicine.
They are gonna do a bone marrow test tomrrrow. One of the doctors says they think it might be adult stills disease. They are gonna test her for that tomrrrow.
