re: A quick question about window units... - bayoubrucebruce
If you could find a mini split system (ex. Mitsubishi) , and with enough circuits to do wall mounts in living/kitchen, and bed and bath for $1500 is really cheap. The good mini splits I have done in the past are several thousand installed with just outside unit and one wall unit. For window units ...

re: A quick question about window units... - bayoubrucebruce
If your wanting to cool several rooms, you need to look into a split system. A window unit will cool that area but not be able to be consistent temp and moisture removal throughout. Or a small window unit in each room. ...

re: A quick question about window units... - bayoubrucebruce
Is it just a wide open building? 15k btu, I belive isn't going to get the job done. 25k will and shouldn't have any problems with moisture because it's not sized extremely too big. It all just depends on how well building is sealed and insulated to how well it will cool and remover moisture. ...

re: A quick question about window units... - bayoubrucebruce
How well insulated is the building? Around 800 square ft is a little over 1 1/2 ton of air. 12000 btu= 1 ton. 750 Sq ft would be 1 1/2 ton= 18000 btu cooling. That being said I would go with the bigger unit. ...

re: OT A/C Experts - Heat Pump vs. Conventional - bayoubrucebruce
I left out a gas furnace, if you have gas I would not switch to heat pump or electric heat. Too many people switch and are unhappy with heat if they had gas heat before. Gas heat is a dry heat and heats up fast and is very efficient. Electric heat is not as hot as gas but is warm immediately. Heat p...

re: OT A/C Experts - Heat Pump vs. Conventional - bayoubrucebruce
If by conventional, do you mean electric heat? If so a heat pump will cost a little more in equipment prices, it is more efficient to heat your house. It should use the same amount of electricity to heat you house as to cool your house or about the same. Just straight cool with electric heat...

re: Air conditioner drain issues - bayoubrucebruce
If the drain has a p-trap on the line and you sucked the water out of the trap while trying to unclog it will try to pull the water back into the unit if the coil is before the blower. If you have a tee before the trap it should be capped. ...

re: What kind of certification is necessary to buy freon? - bayoubrucebruce
That's the only way we would work on them if would could take them to the shop and work on them. Unless it's a quick fix. We would just take apart and clean at the shop. We did do a lot a ptac units for hotels and that's not nearly as bad. ...

re: What kind of certification is necessary to buy freon? - bayoubrucebruce
You have my respect for working on window units. I hate trying to repair them, they always seem to be dirty and in a bad spot to work on. If it's not a capacitor or something simple I always feel people throw away money trying to fix them because of the service charge and time it takes. Unless they ...

re: What kind of certification is necessary to buy freon? - bayoubrucebruce
I may not have been too clear. I never had to worry about what I could and could not buy. I just took the test and got universal so it covers everything. I'm not sure what happens if you just have one type of certification but I would figure since all system take different refrigerants you could buy...
