Saute in butter. Ate them in Virginia 20 years ago. I might have cut them in half. You can bread them too. Its been a while but I think that's how we cooked them. I just know they were great....

Try #2 Mepps. Cast and reel. If you really want delicious trout, scale, clean, cut off fins and tail then cut them across the backbone into 1" chunks. Leave skin on. Pack into pint jars with 1 teaspoon salt and no water and pressure can 10 pounds pressure for 90 minutes. Eat on a saltine. Its fine. ...

Any shotgun with No. 4 or No.6 shot is a superior home defense weapon. Your range will be measured in feet. Shoot a 2 liter bottle at 3 steps and you will see what I mean. Nobody is walking away from that. Your chances of collateral damage decrease significantly also. I like a double or o/u....
re: What are some good locations to go elk hunting?

Bowhunting is different. I was talking about rifle seasons. I think bow starts late August. Find active wallows(muddy) and hunt them. Get a cow call. Go for it! Wish I had started earlier. You can definitely kill elk on your own....

Go to the Colorado website. They have an elk hunting tutorial. Lots of good info.
Second and third seasons are OTC bull tags in lots of units. Everybody in Texas hunts the second season but you can do fine if you let other hunters push them to you. Hunt dark timber and passes.
One of you should ha...

We used to catch them in nets in the SC lowcountry in the winter. I remember they tasted decent out of cold water when we fried them.
Try canning them. Pint jars, 90 minutes at 10 pounds in a pressure cooker. Put 1 tsp salt per jar. Bones will disslove. Eat on a saltine craker....

Definitely get an otc tag and go. Elk hunting has to be experienced to appreciate it.
Do your research, call DOW folks and take a trip. Take guys with you you can stay with for a week in a tent. My first hunt was a drop camp and they're fine but you can kill elk own your own.
I can hunt CO for ab...

Killed one bull and one cow on DIY hunts in CO. Cheaper but pretty tough....

Don't know if this works for everybody but it sure works for me. Next time you are exposed to poison ivy/oak pour one cup bleach into your bathwater. Scrub and soak in this. Usually helps cut the oil that causes the irritation. FWIW....
