As a kid (1950-60’s) I remember frequently passing mountains of dredged clam shells at the Higgins, Inc. lot right next to the old Hwy 90 bridge crossing the Industrial Canal. Often so fresh they stunk of rotting clams.
quote:

The dredging stopped because dredging them stirred up the water in the lake. Sediments that sank in the lake bed would get suspended again the water.

The dredging stopped when the right people realized the undredged live clams were natural bottom feeding water filters. Allowing them to live and thrive and filter away instead of paving roads with them led to an improving water quality in the lake.
Was there not some issue concerning the economic power of the agricultural South versus the economic power of the emerging industrial North and the voting balance in Congress as new states were admitted to the Union - would each new state be Slave or Free?

Very quietly and privately. Keep
Nazi book burnings, Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 and other dystopian texts in mind. Once the source of intelligence (education) becomes an established utility for which money must be exchanged for the privilege, then public libraries and private libraries will be declared illegal and made subject to govt confiscation/destruction. Owners of such will likely be declared criminals and subject to prosecution. It will be hard to keep credit card purchases quiet, but plausible deniability that your books, cds, dvds were lost, stolen or thrown away might buy space or time.
Buy books now while you can; including reference books of every kind (dictionaries, thesaurus, encyclopedias - fiction & non-fiction, classics, art). Buy anthologies, novels, textbooks, music, cds, dvds (and players & screens for those). In essence, quietly build your own audio visual library. Don’t depend on streaming or the cloud or anything you can’t directly own or control. They will devour and control all forms of knowledge with a quickness.

what do you think?
NOLA born and raised. Loved this hilarious book when I read it. It almost seems like a running NOLA Insider joke. Will your Lafayette kids “get” it. I suspect yes, but will they appreciate every subtlety? Maybe yes, maybe non. But pondering makes my valve commence to turn.

So, now we're down to telling folks to walk their asses everywhere?
Remember Jimmy Carter insisting we all turn down the lights, walking thru the White House turning off each room’s lights? Then lowering the highway speed limits to 55 to conserve gas?

You never did deny still living in your mommy’s basement. And letting her credit card cover your expenses. Thus one might conclude this is how it is in your delusional world. Do you like that kind of logic?

Retired. Very different than unemployed. That’s why jammy lives in his mommy’s basement.

gas prices
Given your obviously limited awareness of reality and your juvenile need for attention, I’m going to guess you may have been born in the 1990s or later. And probably living in your momma’s basement or attic. And likely using her credit card to buy gas if you even have a drivers license. So why worry about gas prices, eh. Momma will pay it all.

Yes. And yes.
Just gotta call BS on ya’ pal. I doubt if you were aware of much, including Donald Trump or what he thought about Iran and Israel back in the 80s.

Oh and let me say it for greater emphasis:

QUAGMIRE
QUAGMIRE

Once for every time I voted for Trump.

Heard everything Trump has had to say about Iran and Israel since the 80s. Has watched Iran operate for 47 years. But this gas price thing is just a bridge too far.
So Trump has been talking about Iran and Israel since the 80s, when he was still a democrat? And you have been following him since back then? So naturally you are on board with the present state of things? Or are you not paying attention to the shift from his America First no wars promises, to yet one more Middle East Neocon quagmire - Trump style?
