The SEC has suspended Mississippi freshman defensive back Trae Elston for the Rebels' upcoming home game against No. 14 Texas because of a hit in last weekend's win over UTEP. According to a statement from the SEC, Elston's hit was in violation of Rule 9-1-4 of the NCAA rulebook.

"No player shall target and initiate contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, elbow or shoulder," the rule reads. Also, Rule 9-1-3 states, "No player shall target and initiate contact against an opponent with the crown (top) of his helmet."

Perfect hit from a safety trying to prevent a TD. SEC botched this one. Led with his shoulder to the guys chest. I would coach him to do it the same way next time as well.

Clean hit. Bull shite move by the SEC.

He lowered the boom, but didn't lead with his head. Lead with is shoulder and lowered his head, the receiver short armed the ball expecting the hit and lowered his head as well. Helmets hit, but it was not intentional.

How is he suspended for a hit that didnt even draw a flag?

I saw it when it happened. My first thought was that it would have cost him $25K if it was an NFL game
