Dan Mullen Makes His Pick For Florida vs. Tennesse, Talks Billy Napier's Hot Seat

Former Florida head coach and current ESPN College Football analyst Dan Mullen was on "The Matt Barrie Show" this week and talked about the upcoming rivalry game between Florida and Tennessee.

Mullen also talked about Florida coach Billy Napier who hasn't won a rivalry game since he was hired and could be on the hot seat if doesn't get one under his belt soon. Per SDS:
quote:

“He hasn’t won a rivalry game yet. I think that is a huge deal..At Florida, there’s really the 3 games that are rivals. There’s Florida State, there’s Tennessee, and there’s Georgia. He hasn’t gotten a win in 1 of those games…” Mullen said via an appearance on The Matt Barrie Show. “You want to win championships but the rivalry games, you get wins in those, it just means a little bit more for everybody, as everything in the SEC does.

“This is always a big game,” Mullen said. “In all my years at Florida both as an assistant and a head coach, the Tennessee game was always such a huge game.”

“This would be a big, big win for Billy Napier and for the direction the program is headed,” Mullen said. “A loss, he could be looking at 0-6 after 2 years against his rivals. That’s not how Florida fans want to see things.”

“I’m going Tennessee. I’m still on the Tennessee bandwagon…” Mullen said. “Joe Milton can make all the plays. I trust Josh Heupel honestly to put him in positions to succeed…I think they’re improved defensively to shut Florida down.”
Kickoff between Florida and Tennessee in the Swamp is set for 6 pm CT on ESPN.

The USL coach is just not cutting it. Sorry.

Mullen needs to STFU. Napier is facing challenges mainly because Mullen was a terrible program builder.

Not to mention, while Dan was the HC at Florida, the HC's of Tennessee and FSU were Jeremy Pruitt and Willie Taggart. If he had to go up against Heupel and Norvell instead, I would not be surprised if Dan would have had a losing record against them.

@6R12

Not at all. I'm a Florida fan who was strongly against the Dan Mullen hire back in 2017. I knew he was a terrible HC, and was proven to be right.

Now, Sun Belt Billy might have also been a bad hire. He wasn't my first choice and I've been underwhelmed by the on-field results so far. He's recruited well.

Maybe Napier ain't it, but Mullen sure wasn't and needs to STFU.

Mullen

Didn't seem to blame himself about any of that either. Being he stopped recruiting in 2020. Pretty much left Florida in a mess.

Mullen Didn't mention any of that did he

You are right Che, unfortunately, his system involved refusing to fire Todd Grantham as his DC.

All three rivals are peaking and Florida is down. They can fire him, but what’s it really going to solve.
