Looking to possibly visit Yosemite this June. I would probably look for a cabin outside of the park.

How many days should we plan for?

Best airport to fly into? Oakland?

If we want to visit Sequoia for a day, is it doable with just a day trip from Yosemite?

I'd probably pair it with a few days somewhere else(SF, LA, Lake Tahoe) on the back end depending on where we fly out of.

I'd think flying to FAT would be closer.

Thanks for the idea. Just looked and flights are reasonable into Fresno. If you did that would you just stay east central California, or fly into FAT and out of another airport for a split stay?

Check flights to or from Reno. I’d go in one side and out the other. Hwy 395 along the eastern Sierras is one of the prettiest drives in America.

Good idea about Reno, if he's going to do Tahoe as well.

Cool drive being in the desert one minute and then what seems like a mile later you're in an alpine forest.

The one with the cheapest flight and rental car within a 3 hour radius.

Funny I was just looking at Google maps thinking the same thing....We did this trip 5 years ago and stayed at stone cabin just outside the west entrance. Short drive is the key house was verb. Flew into Oakland as it was best deal on SWA and stayed near airport first night and then got rental...Great selection on rentals at Oakland for National. Not sure about how long...You gotta stay for at least 4 days and Sequoia is easy for another couple...We went for two weeks first week at Yosemite then ran north to Redwoods National Park and then back to Oakland. Great visit just check to see if you need reservations at parks, and have a great time. Only downside visiting Yosemite is the food available.

I live in Fresno. You need to give yourself at least a day each for the national parks. It’s a huge area to cover and you’re going to spend hours traveling just from Yosemite down to Sequoia. If you go south to north I’d probably look at lodging in Visalia for The Sequoia/Kings Canyon portion. For the Yosemite portion I’d look at lodging in Oakhurst/Bass Lake as I’m sure the park is probably sold out well in advance. From either of those two locations it will 30 minutes or so to the south entrance of Yosemite but another couple of hours to Yosemite Valley. From the valley you have easy access to the Bay / Tahoe but Tahoe will be a long drive. June is a beautiful time to be up there. Have fun!

Three days minimum. Fresno airport is about 2 hours from Yosemite.

The Mariposa Grove at Yosemite is adequate enough, no need to go to Sequoia. It’s a 3 hour drive.

Lake Tahoe is about 5 hours, but that could be a fun trip. Tahoe is great. Could fly into Fresno and out of Reno. Southwest flies into/out of both.

I went both places in 2021, Yosemite in May and Tahoe in November. Both beautiful.

I am not so sure the view from the tunnel isn't one of the best views in the country.

Then again, Glacier Point might be too!

Consider flying in and out of Sacramento, particularly if you decide on Tahoe for part two of your trip. Gas station very near rental car return is another plus.

Between Yosemite and Tahoe (if you stay west of the mountains): Big Trees State Park in Calaveras has sequoias, Jamestown State Historic Park is nice, both are close to the route to Tahoe.

Again assuming Tahoe: Go out the east side of Yosemite over the Tioga Pass to Lee Vining. Mono Lake and the tufa towers are worth seeing. A jaunt south from there is Mammoth Lakes (never been). North from Lee Vining is Bodie State Historic Park (old mining ghost town), well worth a multi-hour visit IMO.

Check out the Yosemite website. Glacier Point road is being worked on. Road is closed this year, don’t know about next year, Yosemite infamous for taking much longer than advertised on projects. Read up on access to Mariposa Grove. Everything has changed since years past, don’t think there is parking there, no more open shuttle tours through the grove, shuttle to grove from south entrance but limited parking at south entrance is what I read.

You may need a pass to get into Yosemite if you don’t have lodging in the valley. That was the case in recent years, don’t know about 2022. Be sure to check on this in 2023.

If you do decide to stay in the valley, Ahwanee (sp) would cost a fortune, consider having lunch there but reservation needed, permanent tents in Curry Village are fun (well, funish, done that 3 times as an adult), wouldn’t recommend House Keeping camp,
Yosemite Lodge another option, loved staying at Wawona a few years ago but not convenient to valley attractions.

Just did the trip for a second time this summer.
Fly in to Fresno is the easiest. We stayed at Tenaya lodges cabins. There like mini trailers with a huge gas fireplace out in front. Located about 10 minutes from park entrance .

Strongly suggest you take the drive out of the main valley up to Tenaya lake and toulame meadows.

Also take a couple of hours drive to the south and see Seqouia National Park. You’ll get to see the General Sherman tree. The largest tree o. The planet.

We stayed in a cabin in Wawona last May. It was very convenient.

You can do Yosemite and Sequoia in the same day, but it is better to hike up to some falls in Yosemite. I would make it two days. Head up to Tahoe the next day. You can fly in or out of Reno from Tahoe. Honestly, you could take a week in Northern Ca and not get to everything.
