Was flying out of Odessa/Midland to Birmingham (connection at DFW) on American in January of 2015. Flight was supposed to leave at 6:20 am, boarded at 5:50, the flight took off at 11:45.

It was cold, they needed a de-icing truck. Their truck broke down, they had to borrow one from Southwest. Southwest took care of their own planes first (understandably), warmed up to the point de-icing was no longer needed. Instead of making my 10:25 connector, I got to hang around DFW until 8:45 that night.

In 2003, trying to get back home to Laffy on a one hour flight from Atlanta Hartsfield on Delta. After 3 hours delay, we take off and then immediately land at Hartsfield due to "equipment problems".

Another 3 hour delay, we take off again on the second plane and immediately land again at Hartsfield. I am not joking. Another 3 hour delay, we take off again on the third plane. Then we land at Meridian due to, yes, "equipment problems".

After five hours waiting at Meridian's convenience store sized terminal, and another security and baggage check, we finally board the fourth plane for Lafayette. It took 16 hours to get home on Delta. I could have driven back in 8 hours.

No refund, partial refund, voucher, food or drink, or even an apology from Delta. They acted as though it was just another day.

Been lucky as far as not getting stuck on a plane.

Longest delay I ever had was I got to the airport and found out the flight was cancelled because the weather was too cold for the puddlejumper.

They booked me on to one that was several hours later. They apologized for forgetting to call me and gave me a free upgrade to first class.

8 hour delay.

In Detroit.

ETA: On the flight home from Kentucky beating LSU in '07.

Our flight home was Lexington to Detroit, Detroit to Memphis, Memphis to BR. Absolutely terrible.

On our flight home from a year long deployment to Bosnia our 747 had to land in Paris due to some mechanical issues. We sat on the runway without AC in the middle of the summer for over four hours while they found the part they needed.

i guess we should have considered ourselves lucky since we were given an MRE to snack on while we waited.

Other than that I have been stranded in Atlanta multiple times due to weather or mechanical delays.

I'm calling BS on this. Not a chance in hell the customer care line would tell you tough shite when you called them after your trip.

I had a connecting flight in Miami to boston. The plane came in from central America with the shitter lines frozen. The maintenance team worked for hours to get it fixed. As it got closer to midnight, the flight crew was up against duty hours. If we weren't off the gate by 12:15a, it was a no-go. The flight crew staged people to get on as quickly as possible. The maintenance guys fix the crapper, run out to applause, and then the fastest boarding in commercial aviation happened.

Slept on a CRJ stuck on the runway in College Station, TX one night. IAH was closed down due to weather and the terminal at the College Station airport was closed for the night.
