Carlsbad in new mexico is the shite, but probably a bit farther than you wanted to travel.

Natural Bridge Caverns outside San Antonio is pretty cool cave, plus there is plenty of stuff for the kids to waste your money on.

Mammoth cave in Kentucky was a bit underwhelming.

Ruby falls at lookout mountain in Chattanooga was neat for such a short cave tour.

Marvel Cave in Branson is a good one, plus your kids can waste your money at Silver Dollar city.

Those are all the ones I know off the top of my head.

Natural Bridge Caverns was nice and not too far from San Antonio.
You can do some bourbon drinking when going to Mammoth Cave. There were tight spots on the walk in the cave.

Take a trip out West. Hit Carlsbad on your way to Sedona and/or Grand Canyon. The Painted Desert and Petrified Forest National Parks are on the way there. We did this a few years ago.

Well...the Jenolan Caves in NSW, Australia are stunning.

Not sure if you want to go that far south...

Drive to/from luray caverns was more memorable than caverns as 10 yr old.

Up down up down hills.
