Booking a trip now, and a lot of people are telling me Riverside - Port Orleans is the best themed with the best rooms. Downside is Bus isn't the best, but that isn't a concern really. I am used to shitty off property shuttles.

I was going with Caribbean Beach, but after looking into it, it seems like the two New Orleans resorts are the better choices.

Just wanted some thoughts.

No basis for comparison, but we enjoyed Coronado Springs. It's one of the larger resorts, so it can be a hike to the main building, depending on where your room is located. This wasn't really a big deal for us, since we mostly only went there for breakfast. IIRC, it was priced slightly less than any of the other moderate resorts.

My rankings:

Port Orleans - Riverside
- New renovation
- More to do (boats, fishing, etc)
- Not huge
- Okay location

Caribbean Beach
- Good location
- Better theme
- Newer room options

Port Orleans - French Quarter
- Smaller
- Better dining area
- Okay location

Coronado Springs
- Okay location

What I noticed both online and IRL is the people who tell me they like PO are the ones who stay in Deluxes mostly and the ones who said they didn't like it normally stay off property and in value. No way I am staying at All-star, did that when they were new. I would take any motel in Kissimmee over them. Normally I like to get a two bedroom suite off property (cost what a value on costs) but this will be the girls last time going until for a while and the last time going while they are still young enough to buy into Disney Magic. The next time we come back they will likely be pre-teens. (scary).

After this vacation we plan to start visiting major cities and European countries for a while instead of the Florida, Tennessee, ARk/Tx rotation.

I've stayed at CB twice and going back in Sept. No complaints from me, but I don't have much to compare it to. Only advice I give is to stay in a building close to first couple bus pick ups. That way your not on the last stop and the bus is full. If I was a baller, I'd stay on the Monorail, but I'm not

POFQ. Having only one bus stop and a smaller resort is convenient.

We stayed at riverside in the building towards the back of the resort. Was the last stop on the bus before it headed towards the resorts, and the stop was very close to the room. The bus, in our instance, was never overly packed and very convenient. The main food area and pool were quite a ways away, but a nice walk to get there. Room was quiet since it was in the back of the resort. I had a great time, rooms were very nice and amenities were great.

I've stayed at Carribean Beach once and Port Orleans French Quarter several times with another reservation coming up in Sept. French Quarter is my go-to moderate. Nice and compact, good location.

We've always stayed at Old Key West, not sure if it's considered moderate. I think it is if you're a DVC member.

It's deluxe. Nothing moderate about it.

going on theming and Disney Magic, it seems Riverside has great theming, and if I get one of those Royal Guest rooms, it looks like Deluxe theming. If the bus service stinks, I'll just drive.

That's what I did when I stayed at bonnet creek and didn't like the Bus wait.

i've stayed at Port Orleans Riverside twice. Alligator Bayou rooms are nice. The princess themed rooms are really cool for little girls.

I would stay there again.

Just booked four nights at the Port Orleans riverside in river front rooms in the Royal Guest suites (downside is long walk for breakfast but the rooms look awesome and that's what the kids want.

The views of the grounds remind me of a really clean Natchez moreso than NOLA. I love natchez so that's why I chose it over the quarter one. (plus I go to the real quarter all the time. Lol) Also booked three nights at cabana bay at Universal. (Wish I would just stay there the whole week the family suites are nice and only $249/night which isn't bad for an on property large room)

Rather than book myslef (I like to micromanage) I'm letting the misses' friend do it on Cupcake castles.
Price isn't bad I'm under $5k for a full on property week in Orlando.

I liked the alligator rooms a lot. Decided best for the girls to get the princess rooms though.

Well, the resort used to be called "Dixie Landings" so it really has no connection with New Orleans. At some point, they decided to change "Port Orleans" to "Port Orleans - French Quarter" and then "Dixie Landings" to "Port Orleans - Riverside."

That's what I thought. i guess Dixie wasn't PC anymore. i remember family staying at Dixie landings in the 90's and loving it.

Comparing theming and then having the boat to Dis springs (where we already have plans to meet family at T-rex restaurant) made this a great choice.

I really really wanted Polynesian, but cannot justify the cost. (OT poor, hell this vacation will hurt, )

I LOVE the Poly. I think the only reason we didn't book there for Sept is because it was all sold out. After staying there in Jan, I got the wife hooked on the place. It's always been my favorite resort there...followed closely by Wilderness Lodge. We were close to booking Riverside and a Royal Room for Sept but the wife prefers the smaller footprint at FQ. She HATED the multiple bus stops at Caribbean Beach (as did I). So anytime I tell her a resort has a similar set-up, she quickly shoots that down.
