What to do in Boston.....

My wife and I are using the MSU vs. UMass game as an excuse to take our first trip to Boston. We're staying in Beacon Hill and we have 5 days to work with in late September.....anyone have suggestions on what to do and see while we are in town?
Also, the game is being played at the Patriots stadium in Foxborough.....what is the best way to get there? Should we rent a car for the day? Uber?

Send me an email and I'll send you a guide to the city.

Getting to/from foxboro is a pain in the arse. Fair warning. There is a train that goes out there, which would probably be your best/cheapest option.
Edit: And I didn't realize Miss St was playing UMass in Boston. May have to go and wear my P&G to troll MSU fans.

Abita will give you some great ideas or check his recent posts with things to do in Boston . Just got back . Things we enjoyed were freedom trail , harpoon brewery , Chinatown , the museum , and a Red Sox game. Rent a car and drive north to Maine .

Glad you enjoyed yourself up here.

We need to set up some stickies for the popular ones like Boston, New York, etc.

Stayed in Woburn , went to Lord Hobo brewery late that Wed. afternoon . Got a personalized beer tour. Good stuff , on weekdays they can only give out samples . Drank for 1.5 hrs free . That would never work in La.

What made you stay in Woburn, out of curiosity? Lord Hobo is great - Boom Sauce is a staple in my fridge.

Long story but the b&b we had booked cancelled on us at the last minute . Thank god we had a rental .

I'm interested as well. Wife and I will be in Boston Oct 27-31 for a long weekend, anniversary trip. Jumped on some pretty cheap flights yesterday so we pulled the trigger. Do you mind sending me the guide also?

Also, suggestions on places to stay? Looked at hotels yesterday and they were pretty steep. Not looking to break the bank. Don't need anything fancy. May rent a car and drive up to maine one day as well

re: Expensive Hotels
The cost of living in general is high there, just like with NYC you can always expect hotel rooms to be high. But what you get being downtown is worth the added expense. The old line about Boston being the "most walkable" major city in the US is true.
I stay at the Boston Marriott Long Wharf when I go, it's really convenient to the T and well-run.

It is funny to think of though.
I'd even consider wearing UM gear just to mess with them.

Thanks for the info. I will check it out

No problem I'll send that along.
soccerfut is right about the hotel situation. Yes, they are expensive, but if you stayed outside the city you'd be spending money on ubers to get into the city anyway. There are some places that are a little more reasonable than others. I'd also recommend checking out AirBnB.

I was there earlier this month, week of the 4th, hotels for that peak weekend were expensive. Check out the Cambridge side of the river, prices were lower.
We stayed at the Hyatt on MITs campus, (it was on the river for the fireworks), Freedom Trail was cool. If you go by Fenway, checkout The Baseball Tavern.
We also rented a car drove to Hartford (Mark Twain's house) and then to Maine. On the way to Maine, I would recommend stopping in Salem on the way.

Just got back from a long weekend. Other than being hot as hell, it was a great time. Stayed at the Westin Copley Place, which I felt was centrally located to most stuff we did.
Caught two games @ Fenway
Did the Freedom Trail, which turned into a pub crawl.
Duck Tour was a nice way to get a general feel for the city and little tidbits about the history of the city
Walked around Newbury St
Boston Library was cool
Ate and drank at Eastern Standard, Row 34 (both per Abita, good recs), Fiore in the North End, Mike's Pastrys for canolis
Top of the Hub on the 52nd floor of the Prudential building was a cool spot to drink. We popped in Cheers for a drink. Spent a day at Harpoon Brewery, which I would recommend. Stopped at a sport bar type pub outside around the corner from Fenway that wasnt too bad.
Abita is pretty tuned in, Id listen to him

Sounds like y'all had a great trip, really glad to hear it.
It has been pretty warm in Boston as of late, but still nothing compared to LA

Yea, the hotels are steep.....we booked a place on VRBO and it was still pretty pricey, but not as bad as the hotels.
