A friend and I are staying right off UT campus until Sunday. Any reccomendations to eat, things to see, or bars to hit up would be great.

I was planning to stay a week or two and left after 3 days because of the weather and Texas. Plenty of bars and food if that is your thing though

During the day you can rent kayaks on Colorado River, maybe bring some ice chests. Good times. There is a brewery there called Barton Springs that sometimes has bands playing in the afternoon and has good bbq.

Another way to kill time during the day is to drive out to Oasis on Lake Travis. Food isn't that great but view is cool.

If said friend is a woman and you want try hard, get a reservation for a speak easy place called Midnight Cowboy. It's named after a brothel that used to be on site.

6th street and Rainey street are the other main options at night for bar scene.

Buy a tweed vest, skinny jeans that stop 6 inches above your ankle, a flannel shirt, an ironically skinny tie, flamboyant socks, and brown leather shoes.

Get your friends to do the same, and get a few Mason jars to drink out of.

I assume that's what everyone in Austin does.

Elephant Lounge usually has a kick arse group playing. Went there mid-week a couple months ago and they had a 10 piece jazz group playing that was fantastic. It's a club downstairs in a building basement.

With school starting up 6th street should be fun. Just watch out for the trannies, many a young and naive freshman longhorn "rides the bull" and is too drunk to know it til morning

It's not the Colorado you're thinking about

It's a fat and slow part of the "other" Colorado called "lake Austin". There is no white water.
