Looking to surprise the wife and take a weekend trip in OCT.

We would be flying or driving out of MSY.

Any suggestions on where to go?

Fly MSY to ATL rent a car and hit the Smokies, leaves will be changing colors and scenery will be spectacular.

Avoid Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge like they both have the clap. There are some very nice secluded cabins with fireplaces and outside hot tubs if that is yall's thing.

Jesus what a terrible suggestion.

OP, Austin, Asheville, Charleston, or Durango.

If you are really just doing a weekend, like Friday to Sunday, I'd personally fly directly somewhere you can go straight from the airport to the hotel. Renting a car and driving eats up more time than people care to admit.

Bryson City in the Smokies. Rent a cabin. Creekside Cabins. Zipline at Navitat in Bernardsville, North Carolina. See the Biltmore in Asheville. Second week of October is usually prime for leaf changes.

Santa Fe. Fly SW to ABQ, easy drive up to SF. Hiking, art, usually some live music. 10,000 Waves is a must-do. Lots of cool B&B type places to stay. Have a drink at rooftop bar at LaFonda
