I believe there are a few posters who have physically been. You may have to keep the thread alive through the weekend though as most boards do tend to get quiet.

Third world travel. I'm no use because I only go the specific city my wife is from and it's mostly off the grid for Westerners. I'd look at the itinerary online of one of the big tour places and get ideas that way or just use TripAdvisor or something.

I've been to Saigon, Hanoi and ha long bay. I would highly recommend visiting Hanoi and ha long bay. It's a very beautiful place, and the city of Hanoi was much more enjoyable than Saigon to me.

The coastal area between the 2 cities will probably have the other places you'd want to go.

Been to Hanoi, halong bay, sapa in the mountains , central Vietnam danang and hoi an and to HoChi Minh (Saigon) I probably enjoyed Hanoi and northern Vietnam the most then Hoi An , I would put Ho Chi Minh last out of those three. Vietnam is overall incredible great food very friendly and they are definitely developing their economy impressively. Ask me on any specifics and I will be happy to answer .
