I'm currently in the middle of scouting out potential places/cities to visit in Scandanavia this summer and thought to see if I could get any advice from this travel board.

Just a little background: Back in August 2016, a close friend and I come across an opportunity to purchase a flight to Copenhagen for $250. We agreed that for a majority of the trip, we would spend time traveling around the neighboring countries before flying down to Spain to visit some of his friends and family.

In my research of the Scandanavia countries, I became really interested in Norway, particularity Bergen over Olso. Yet, Gothenburg and Malmo, Sweden also look like great places to travel.

We plan on spending 10 days in Spain which leave us with just about 2 weeks to travel through Scandanavia. For those who've been to this part of the world, do you have any recommendations on the best places to go and how long to stay in that particular place given that I only have about 14 days?

Thanks a ton, in advance!

Copenhagen is my favorite city and you could easily spend 4 or 5 days there. Malmo is an easy day trip from Copenhagen. Bergen is really beautiful but 1 day/night is plenty unless you want to do something besides check out the city and the fjord tour. I was in Helsinki last summer and hadn't been there in 12 years or so. It really has become a pretty cool city since last time I was there. Stockholm is my least favorite scandi city....and I've been there 3 times including once with a swedish friend. He took us to some cool spots outside the city but the city itself is meh......I know others love Stockholm though.

Thanks for your reply!

I'm excited for Copenhagen. I'm aiming to spend about 5 days there then travel to Gotenburg, Sweden for 4 days, then up to Oslo for another 5 days. I'd like to do some hikes throughout Norway in that time

Don't let them send you this time of year! I had a convo in a bar with a guy from Greece living there and working for Nokia. He said the first year was miserable because of the darkness in the winter causing him to have SAD. He missed work a few times because he had trouble getting out of bed. He finally got a special lamp to mimic daylight and that helped him.

I would not miss the chance to drive on the Atlantic Ocean road. Google it. I was just in Norway (winter time). I would love to go back in the Summer. Gorgeous country.

Rent a bicycle for the whole time you're there. It's like Amsterdam, everyone rides bikes....but its not as chaotic as amsterdam, Scandi's are rule followers and they signal turns and when stopping. Just watch them for a bit and you'll pick up on the bike etiquette. Check out Christiania, the hippie commune on an old military base in the middle of the city. You can sometimes buy hash at the kiosks there on Pusher Street but it has been shut down since a policeman was shot there in September. There is an outdoor beer garden in the back of the commune where you can have a beer. There are also some good restaurants there. My favorite is the vegetarian buffet at Morgenstedet and a more upscale place called Spiseloppen. Also, The Louisiana Museum (no relation to the state of Louisiana) is a great place to see modern art. Its a 20 minute train ride and then a 10 minute walk to the museum which looks really small when you walk up to it. But it sprawls out once you are inside. There is an outdoor cafe at the back on a cliff looking out over the ocean.
