I want to get the boards thoughts on Excellence Playa Mujeres.
This will be an anniversary trip. I’ve been looking at different resorts and locations for a few months and we both are liking this place based on what we’ve seen.
Also, does it make a difference to book through a travel agent or go about it ourselves?

Great resort.

Did my honeymoon there in 2012 and went again for my 10 yr anniversary. It had gotten better over time.

It's a great resort. Just book it yourself.

We went honeymoon in 2015 and again in 2021 during the Texas freeze. It was a little more rowdy in 2021, mostly in part to all that COVID cash everyone had. That being said, it was still excellent.

We talked to many a people who had gone to other resorts, and apparently Excellence PM has the best food.

Do the excellence club. I think it's worth it.

People on here rave about it

Not to be confused with Isla Mujeres…. Which people also rave about.

Thanks everyone. I think this is the place we’ll book. If there isn’t real advantage to using a travel agent then I’ll set it up myself.

There shouldn't be

There might be some agencies that offer like a bottle of champagne in your room upon arrival or spa vouchers or something but I am not aware of any.

We went last year, mostly based on glowing comments and reviews seen on this board. We did excellence club, etc. and what we learned is that my wife and I are not all-inclusive resort people. If you know you like A-I resorts, then I'm sure this one is as great as any. It was pretty and maintained decently. Beach was nice.

If you aren't sure or have concerns with A-I, I would caution you to temper expectations. The drinking water (even bottled) has a taste to it, thus all the ice, drinks and food have a distinct taste. It is a bit nauseating after the first day. We much preferred the boutique hotel, restaurant and bar hopping trip that we took to Tulum a few years prior.

We went this November for the first time. It is a beautiful property that is very well maintained.

We really enjoyed 75% of the food (which is higher than most AI's). French and Indian restaurant were great.

The bartenders work their butts off to make good drinks all day.

We had a rooftop pool room which we did not use the pool, so i would recommend just getting a swim-up room. We did not do Excellence club, but it did not seem worth the extra from talking to people.

There are a ton of activities every day for different types of people. The daily shows are great. (Do the bike tour and silent disco)

The service is what sets this place apart. Great people who care about their service.

Not to hijack the thread but does anyone have experiences with Excellence El Carmen in Punta Cana?

We enjoy both. Our first all inclusive was 6 years ago in Punta Cana and enjoyed the experience of the resort.

Some small local travel agencies will often let you do a payment plan on your trip (prior to departure).

Other than that, I can’t think of a reason to ever use a travel agent.

Stayed there 6 times in the last decade. Best AI resort. Food is def above average but the hospitality & friendliness of the staff is what keeps one going back. Drinks on point and decent beach with lots of pool space. Bring $ to tip & go to the martini bar every night.

Excellence El Carmen in Punta Cana

Loved it this past fall. They have a nice variety of activities & lessons, and the staff made it an incredible time. They remember you, joke around and will make it their mission to let you know they noticed you.
Food was an 8 of 10 (which isn't fair to hold them up Louisiana standards), but there was at least one delicious menu item at every place.
Would go back tomorrow!

Thanks. We are deciding between that and Lopesan for this March. I'm aware of the reputation that the Excellence brand has and I'm leaving heavily towards EEC. EPC was all booked up for the rooms we wanted. Did you do Excellence Club? Currently have a Excellence Club Swim out booked.

If the resort is crowded, it's worth just to not have to fight for a beach lounger.
