Just booked my hotel in the heart of Banff for a couple nights this Thanksgiving weekend. I've never been to Banff so I look forward to this mini winter trip.

Any good food recs, hikes, etc would be much appreciated. Since weather is unpredictable, I'm not making this a ski trip... just an exploration trip. The gondola is on my list of things to do for a good view. Other recs would be great!

I can't imagine how cold it will be that time of year.

It's not much different than where I am... it's 41 here and normally the weather isn't bitter cold until January. It's the "off season" for that area so the hotels are super cheap.

Yeah seems like you'd need snow shoes for any hiking, roads closed etc. I think even Yosemite starts closing paths at that time

Check with the Banff Springs Hotel for a Thanksgiving dinner special. I was there for Mother's Day and they had an impressive lunch.

Not sure where you are staying but the Fairmont Banff Springs is worth a visit. There's a spot called Grapes there which has the best meat & cheese boards you'll ever have in your life. Also, the adjacent Waldhaus is a cozy little spot too.

The Fairmont on Lake Louise is a great jumping off point for hikes as well, though it's a 45 min bus ride.

As far as downtown, Park Distillery is a nice spot to get dinner and chill, and Banff Ave. Brewing has a nice 2nd floor balcony from which to enjoy an afternoon.
