Going to NYC for Christmas and plan on checking out the MoMA as well as the Met. Possibly the Guggenheim as well. For those of you who've been before, what are your suggestions on what to see? I know I won't be able to see it all, but how did you choose which works of art you wanted to see?

Starry Night & The Persistence of Memory are must-sees for me at the MoMA.

Any and all suggestions are welcome. TIA

The MoMA isn't too big or overwhelming. You can get through pretty much all of it quickly. To me, the Lilly Pond Monet room is the most impressive thing at the MoMA.

The Met is awesome. It covers a vast time period so there is something for everyone.

If I had limited time:
Roman/Greek Art
European Sculpture
19th century European paintings

Unfortunately the rooftop bar is closed for the season. If you but tickets online, they are $25. The cost is a donation of your choice, but the lines can be long at times.

You will also get admission to the Met Breuer which is around the block on Madison. Don't bother. The building is the most impressive part plus the galleries will be very underwelming compared to the Met.

Go into the Guggenheim lobby, it's free, then leave.

The art there is crap compared to MoMA. MoMA can be done in a few hours. Degas has a big exhibit there worth seeing.

The Met is great. Spend as much time as possible there. I really liked the Arms and Armor exhibit.

When you give the suggested donation at the Met, you get admission to the Cloisters in Fort Tyron Park. Worth a visit and a must-do if you have any interest in medieval art architecture or cathedrals.
