Going to Seattle beginning of January and looking for some suggestions of what to do / check out / eat / etc. Appreciate any tips in advance

1. Go throw around some smelly salmon at Pike street market
2. Take a worthless expensive boat tour and see where the movie "sleepless in Seattle" was filmed
3. Stand in a long line at the original Starbucks and overpay for mediocre coffee
4. Find a ray of sunshine amongst the dense fog
On a serious note, it is actually a pretty cool city. We visited for a couple of days and were lucky enough to enjoy some fantastic weather and catch a Seahawks game, which was a pretty cool experience. it is a very big hipster town and very casual.
take some pics and report back please

Great city to visit.
The market is touristy, but check it out for a half-hour or so. Also, Beecher's Cheddar shop is next to that original starbucks. Get some delicious cheese instead.
I'm a huge fan of the Fremont/Ballard area. There's a main drag of shops, bars & restaurants running through Fremont. Also, Fremont brewing is a cool spot. My favorite brewery in town is Holy Mountain, and Chuck's Hop Shop is worth a visit as well.
For dining:
Walrus & the Carpenter in Ballard (no reservations, so go early or late)
Revel (Fremont area)
Le Pichet for coffee/breakfast (downtown)
Biscuit Bitch (downtown)
I'll add any other spots I think of to this post later...

quote:These are good suggestions. Walrus & the Carpenter had the freshest/cleanest tasting oysters I've ever eaten. There's a wait at 4:00 in the middle of the week to get in this place. Also, if you like breweries there's Stoup Brewery in Ballard not far from Walrus. My first day I like to jump on a 'Hop on Hop off bus" just to get my bearings and a feel for the city. They'll take you to the Ballard & Fremont neighborhoods and most scenic views.

Ferry to Victoria would be a nice day trip. Prob see some whales as well.

Early bird food tour is the best way to see Pike Place. Offered by a couple of companies. You're there before the cruise ship hoards get there

Take ferry over to the San Juan Islands. Very pretty place. Not many Orcas in January, but still a great place.

In Pike Place Market is Pike Brewing's Brew Pub. Decent atmosphere and beer selection but I have to give it props as Mrs. Füt left a expensive camera there and didn't realize it for about an hour. When we went back to see if they'd found it, our server (a bartender) had left for the day but another barkeeper knew about it and returned the camera to us.
That was two people there who each could have individually kept the camera and both of them chose to be honest.
Anytime I can share this story, I share this story.
