Me and the wifey are thinking about taking a trip here. Not a big golfer so what else is there to see and do? Not opposed to renting a car and driving a couple of hours to see some sights or taste some great food. TIA

I like to stay at the HI Express right on Bay St. Supposedly the only HI express with a bar in it. It has a rooftop pool and hot tub that looks over the river. Beaches at Tybee are pretty cool once you get your fill of downtown. Charleston, SC is 100 miles north and imho has much more to do, better restaurants / bars.

While Charleston may have more good restaurants, unless you just want to see Charleston, there is no reason to drive 100 miles for food.
Here is a start:
Savannah Eats
Green Truck
B&D Burgers
Ordinary Pub
Kayak Cafe
Crystal Beer Parlor
Distillery
Leopold's (ice cream)
Treylor Park
Top Deck (top of Cotton Sail Hotel-for drinks and a view)
Rocks on the Roof (top of Bohemian Hotel-same)
Moon River Brewing
B. Matthews
Flying Monk Noodle Bar
Ruan Thai (have not been, heard good things)
Jazz'd Tapas Bar
Tubby's (outdoor eating on the river; food mediocre)
Screamin' Mimi's-Good cheap pizza
The Public Kitchen and Bar
Bellas
More expensive:
Vic's on the River
45 Bistro
Pink House
The Grey
The Florence
Alligator Soul
Cha Bella
Out on Tybee
80e (don't let the location-attached to a gas station steer you away. Food is fantastic)
Cocos Sunset Grill
AJs Dockside
Sundae Cafe
Tybee Island Social Club
Service Brewing-craft beer tour
Southbound Brewing-same
In Vino Veritas-very cool wine bar
Cocoas Dessert and Martini Bar-weird place with great drinks
Fun thing to do is rent a kayak at AJ's on Tybee and paddle across to little Tybee (uninhabited and only accessible by boat)
What are your dates? Might have some other ideas. What kinds of things do you like to do?

We went for a weekend back in May (or possibly April).
The Public Kitchen and Bar was very good, as was Treylor Park. The Distillery had a solid beer list, and Lulu's Chocolate Bar was an interesting concept (bakery and bar) that we really enjoyed.
Downtown Savannah reminded me a lot of Uptown New Orleans. There are a ton of parks and historic homes. We mostly just walked around and enjoyed the atmosphere/city.

I actually lived there for a while. Not some place I would vacation or visit. It's got old southern charm but there are better places to visit IMO.

I understand.
But over 13 million people visit every year, and people love it.

TigerTowninATL has the good places. I also recommend for a great quick lunch and desserts Back in the Day Bakery! Hipster and amazing homemade sandwichs and bites
