Got a friend that just got moved to Bucharest for 2 years for his job and another friend just found out he will be there for 6 months in 2018 (but not in Bucharest) is romania worth a visit if I likely have a free place to stay (definitely in Bucharest) or should I travel somewhere else in europe and have them meet me there?

I really enjoyed all of eastern Europe, so I would absolutely go. it is an interesting blend of budding capitalism and history. there are actually a good bit of buildings standing that have bullet holes, etc. from WW2.

trains are the best way to travel between cities and countries there.

the food will suck by our standards, but you have to try roasted duck or goose when you get a chance, as it is the best I have ever had.

I like to visit the smaller towns in eastern Europe, so you can see real culture of the place.

if you like the city life, hit Bucharest, Budapest, Vienna, etc.

ETA: you need to fix your title or this thread will be anchored.

Ten years ago, hell no. But the modernization of Bucharest recently has been remarkable. My dad is from there, lived his first 28 years there.
