I'm looking to work remote in Europe for the entire August, does anybody have experience or recommendations as to what city should be my hub? I'll have a decent sized budget for housing. Looking to stay in that hub city and work remote during the week, but travel to other cities on the weekends.

Where have you been and where are you wanting to go? Assuming you will NOT have a car?

August is the month a lot of Europeans take for an extended Holiday so be prepared for some things to be shut down.

There's so many options for you here depending on where you really want to go.

FWIW a month sounds like a long time but really you have 4 weekends ish? So 4 potential weekend trips?

August in Europe can be really, really busy.
My favorite city in Europe is Florence, but that would be an example of one that I would not recommend. (A lot of things closed, and swarmed by Chinese tourists that month)

I would choose a place that is more naturistic - where you can escape the crowds. If your budget allows, possibly Switzerland. Ljubljana, Slovenia would be a good option as well. Both are central and would be easy day trips to the bordering countries for the weekends.

Yeah don't forget that many Apts in Europe don't have AC OP. So you need to double check that if you are working from home.

So many options here, really depends on where you have been and where you want to go.

Berlin- central to Denmark, Amsterdam, Poland, Prague
Paris - Central to Belgium, London, Germany, etc.
Milan - Central to Alps, France, Southern Italy, Slovenia
Spain- Central to Spain, Portugal, Morocco
Stockholm- Central to Scandinavia and Baltic states

I have only been to England and Amsterdam. I'll be in Greece for a wedding late July, so taking on a month post-Greece. I'd prefer a more English-speaking area. Belgium, Germany, or Scandinavia are more appealing than Spain and France. More into the city life than adventure.

A villa in a small town in Tuscany. Close enough to do Sienna and Florence on the weekend.

In August, I’d stay north of the Alps to avoid any potential heat waves

Places like Bruges, Berlin, Amsterdam, even as far south as Munich would be on my list…that’s a great opportunity

I second this. Stayed at an AirBnB Villa in Monticchiello a few years ago. It would have been a great base for a month.

Everything from Naples to Milan/Venice within a 4 hour drive. And looking out your window at the Val d'Orcia isn't too shabby

He's probably not going to have a car though. He could rent an apt in Florence though.

If he is talking about weekend trips every weekend, I'd definitely try and stay next to a major central city with fast train options in multiple directions.

Lisbon is cheap you could get a lot with a good allowance, airport is easy to navigate, and flights to Barcelona/Paris/Rome/London are all under 3 hours

I'd go to Ponta Delgada and spend the month in the Azores, but that's because I know how magical that place is, especially in August when all the hydrangeas are in bloom.

I love Switzerland, so I don’t think you can go wrong with Geneva or Zurich as they are great and centrally located.

That being said, Paris might have the best food and day to day experience and still puts you on a major train hub so you can get anywhere.

I haven’t been to Germany, but I know some people who have lived in South Germany and love it. That’s probably what I would opt since I haven’t been there before and it provides a central location.

No car! Ideally, a walkable city during the week and train or short flights on weekends. I'm leaning Germany or Sweden at this point.

This. I would look into the August climate of the place you will be staying. Most places do not have central AC and it can get up to 95-100F in some areas in August. I dont know if youre from the south or not but its the same humid awful heat as southern USA with no real relief when you walk indoors. And touristy areas like Florence, Paris, Rome etc will be slam packed with crowds.

I’m not sure l’ll ever go south of the Alps in July-August in Europe ever again by choice

That said.. Austria, Switzerland, Munich, Copenhagen, Amsterdam would be where I personally would look into

The Piedmonte region of Italy would be cooler. Base could be Alba which is a cool smaller city and the wine and food in that region is sublime.

But the exchange rate is a killer. It's very expensive to live in Switzerland for a month.

If this is the case, I’d recommend Berlin or Munich. Easy to travel around the region, great cities, great public transport, good day trips as well. Everyone speaks English.

I would personally do the rural Tuscan holiday that others have recommended, but to each their own, and I would NOT turn down the chance to live in Munchen or Berlin for a month.

Have fun! Bonne chance!

I would say Berlin or Munich first, then Paris. Those are probably best options for moving around by plane or train on the weekends.

Also look at the overnight trains for longer weekend trips if you don't want to fly.
