Think I am staying at a home I just found on AirBnB at Mission Beach. 0.1 miles from the beach and on the bay as well. Full home, so it should be nice

I prefer Pacific Beach to Mission Beach.
Little Italy is also a very hot neighborhood. The farmers market on Saturday is worth staying there alone.
Two weeks ago I stayed at the Marriott Marquis which is close to the Gaslamp and it was walkable to Petco Park and other downtown locations.

I love La Jolla, it's more my vibe.

This will be your best option especially at your age. Get a beach cruiser but dont get a BUI

Yes I would stay in La Jolla before I stayed downtown.

All are great. San Diego is my favorite place on Earth that I have been to.
Hit up the Del Mar Racetrack if they are still racing.

San Diego resident of 10 years chiming in here:
Depends on the vibe you're looking for. All those neighborhoods are so different
La Jolla: depends on if you're in the Village or in UTC. Specify. UTC is the mall area and no really that cool unless you like going to malls alot. The village is super chill. Some pretty good restaurants: Prepkitchen, Puesto, fancy steak houses, a lot of subpar farm to table, chain-y type places that are overpriced. Will be more laid back, but getting in and out of the village is a pain.
Point Loma: safe area if you're off the highway a little. It's homeless central right off the highway. Not really a tourist spot, unless you're gonna chill at Liberty Station.
Ocean Beach: it's the hippy part of town. I find it to be really endearing and super chill. Not the best beach in town but the most laid back part of town. Lots of weed to be had everywhere. Good restaurant and bar on the beach right there called OB Surf Lodge which has the most ridiculous Mai Thais. Me and the boys go there every Friday and get tanked and watch all the talent cruise by.
Little Italy: the best part of downtown. Close to the bay and waterfront. Convenient to get to from the airport. Great restaurants everywhere. Pretty central. Can get to the zoo and Balboa Park in like 10 minutes. Best restaurant in town Born and Raised is there, but you'll need to call like a month in advance to get in.
Other areas to consider: North Park/Hillcrest-close to tons of great restaurants and bars.
If you're wanting to stay like a baller check out Del Mar or Rancho Santa Fe, but little more a trek down into the city.
Can't go wrong with any of those areas though. It's been hot as a mf'er recently though.

LaJolla all day long.
If I had about four times my present nest egg, I’d retire there.
