Well this may be a bit of a stretch but I figured what the hell. Anyone here made this trip? Looks like a good place to explore. Any other recs for the state of Michigan?

Lived in Michigan, Mackinaw is a cool place.
I would strongly suggest Frankenmuth. It might be the coolest little German town. Go to Zhender's for chicken, Bronner's (world's largest christmas store) and the brewery. Also really neat shops and the best fudge I have ever had

Got engaged on the porch at The Grand, loved it there. We did 3 nights which is really all you need, 2 might be enough. The Grand is pricey, but you get breakfast and 5 course dinners every night, and our package included a round of golf as well. Small course but it overlooks the lake so it has nice views. Get a bike and go around the island, take a horse and buggy tour. Unfortunately went before the lilacs bloomed, would love to see that. Pink Pony is fun, Mary's Bistro has a great beer list. We still order Joann's Fudge for our anniversary every year, it's fantastic.

Also the hometown of the band Greta Van Fleet.

Mackinac is beautiful right now.
It’s post peak tourist season but not cold yet. I’d only spend a day or two there at most.
If you are hitting northern MI I’d check out Traverse City, which is only 2 hrs west. Worth googling it before you set your plans.
If it were me I’d rent a house on Torch Lake, hit Mackinac for a day and finish a long weekend over in Traverse.

It's really awesome. Go, you'll enjoy it.
You can go check out Sault Ste. Marie while you're up that way.
It's never a bad idea to check out some charter fishing opportunities in Northern Michigan as well.

I was just there 2 weeks ago! Really liked it. Ferry ride over was fun. Hiked for miles. Great lunch. Lot of Inns on the island. Maybe you can find some deals and stay a couple of nights.
Selected Photos!
Michigan is actually my favorite state to visit (until the winter!). Check out Traverse City. Great restaurants. Wineries. Sleeping Bear Dunes is a must see.
We went up into the UP and camped for a few days around Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Amazing place.
So much to see and do in that state.

Are people purposefully misspelling it?
Mackinac not Mackinaw
Mackinac not Mackinaw

I am here now. Very beautiful. This is our second night here. Leave in the morning for Saulte Saint Marie… Then two nights in Munising. One night in Petoskey. Two nights in Traverse City…Then fly back to Sweet Home Alabama…????

Wifey and I enjoyed it. We always wanted to stay at the Grand after watching the film "Somewhere in Time". Very laid back. No automobiles on the island.
We flew in, and our pilot was great. Circled a couple of times so we could get aerial pics. We also caught a buggy ride to the Grand from the airport. Took a tour of the fort, rented bikes, walked the downtown area, booked an island carriage ride, but mostly enjoyed the quiet surroundings and views. I think we did 3 nights at the Grand

Northern / Northwestern Michigan is the best place in the USA for about 5 months per year. Mackinac Island is a must-do.

Wife and I just made this trip in late June, I highly recommend. We flew into Detroit and drove up to Mackinac. I advise to take the ferry out of St. Ignace rather than mackinac city, ( Take Shepplers) the boat far less crowded going out of SI. We stayed at mission point which was pretty nice. It wasn’t as fancy as the grand but not a bad place at all. We rented bikes for a day and had a nice dinner at 1852 Grill room which was well worth it, nice scenery and great food. I would say 2-3 days would be a perfect amount of time to stay.
After our stay at the island we drove through the Upper Peninsula and stopped at Pictured Rocks national lakeshore then headed into Green Bay and stayed for the night. The next morning we left GB and drove to Chicago spent a day there doing mostly touristy type things, went to a Red Sox v Cubs game at Wrigley and flew home the following morning. Overall it was a great trip. The scenery on the drive was decent but the destination a were awesome.

I went to Mackinac Island 2 years ago. It's definitely a 2 day stay kind of place.
Petoskey, Charlevoix, and Traverse City are all cool towns to visit.
Also check out the Sleeping Bear Dunes.

Agree with all the comments. Check out Alpena on the Huron side. Nowicki's Brats and Austin Brother's Brewery. Get some pasties if you go to the UP

My wife is from Michigan. The island and Frankenmuth are my top 2 for all the reasons mentioned above. Crystal Lake in Beulah is also underrated. This is just about the perfect time of year.
Their family reunions are the week between Christmas and New Year. They want to know when I’m coming back to one. It’s been 17 years since the only one I’ve been to. I grew up in SWLA. Great people there - like Louisiana people with a different accent. Just use great caution with calling anyone ma’am. Many there take exception to it.
