Looking for ideas for a getaway in the middle of January. Don't want to go to Florida or Texas. Been to both several times. It doesn't matter distance because I can always take a flight. Just looking for some new ideas. Don't want to ski but cold weather is not a problem.

Flights to Boston and New York tend to be cheaper during those months because no one wants to deal with the cold.

But that just really depends on what you're looking to do when you're on vacation.

This is why I'm asking. I know it's cold as shite up there, but has anyone been during this time. Looking for ideas from people that have been to specific places during January.

Well I live in Boston, so I can tell you that it's certainly cold here. Highs in the 20s/low 30s. But honestly if you dress appropriately, it's not unbearable. I wouldn't recommend walking the freedom trail or anything, but otherwise you'll be fine.

NY is pretty comparable, if maybe a slight bit warmer. I'm headed there Thursday for Christmas and will be back for work in mid-January.

Asheville, NC if you like food, beer and beautiful scenery. It would be the off season so you could get a hotel for a good rate. The weather is still pretty mild compared to NYC and Boston. Search Asheville on this board.

You could do Asheville for a few days and Greenville, sc for a day, or spend a day in highlands, nc which is incredible.
Charleston would be a great trip.

Wife and I did NYC last January and loved it. Much cheaper for hotels sand easy to get into everything. Bundle up and it isn't bad at all. We stayed at 50NYC and it was great and like 130 a night, when it is normally more than 300

Plenty of indoor things to do/see.

Some great breweries out in Brooklyn, MoMA, the Met, ice skating in Central Park, 9/11 Museum, etc.
