Kauai or Costa Rica? Plan our vacation

Wife and I can't decide on where we want to go next year. We are looking for luxury resort accommodations mixed with the ability to explore nature.
One qualifier is that this trip will be paid for with CHASE UR Points so hotel/resort and airfare have to be through UR partners.
Please help us plan our trip!

Don't know why you would consider Costa Rica with Kauai on the table.

If you want to explore nature - Coast Rica. For luxury - probably Hawaii though I'm sure Costa Rica has that too. But just get out and explore and figure what works for you.
Because there are better places than either of them for your objectives.

Costa Rica by a long shot. Here's why....Hawaii is crazy expensive. Hawaii is miserable to get to from the East Coast. Costa Rica is relatively inexpensive. Costa Rica is 2 hours from ATL (not sure where you're coming from). You will lose 2 days traveling to Hawaii from your vacation while Costa Rica you may lose 1/2 day total.

You can book the Grand Hyatt on Kauai by transferring Chase UR points to Hyatt. It's the nicest hotel on the island. Hawaii seems much nicer than Costa Rica to me, but as others have mentioned the travel time difference is big if you're leaving from Louisiana

I've stayed at that Grand Hyatt twice . It's an almost perfect property and the pools are world class. Check out one of the existing Kauai threads for info.

Has anybody been to the Nayara Spa and Gardens resort in Costa Rica? This one has really caught our eye.

I saw something online about Southwest recently adding flights to Costa Rica from Fort Lauderdale. They are supposedly running some promotion for $89 one way flights if you want to go sometime between December to January. Maybe look into that?

Personally, if you said I have 2 weeks 'hawaii' or Costa Rica I would say Hawaii. But for a week or less vacation from the south or east coast I'd say Costa Rica. I lived in Hawaii for 3 years and I love it, but when going for vacation those flights are a pita and it is expensive. Plus there is so much to see and do, I really feel like you are doing a Hawaiian vacation injustice by only doing one island unless you have been there before.
