Did it a few years ago at the National Mall. Was definitely cool to watch the fireworks show while standing in such a historic/cool place. Be warned, the crowds are crazy and getting back on the Metro was a bit of a chore, but it really didn't take too long.

I've spent the last 4 or 5 July 4th's in DC. There are multiple firework shows in the area but nothing beats the fireworks at the National Mall. They usually have a stage and a performer that night but if you don't care about that, I recommend watching the show from the Marine Corps War Memorial.

Let's just hope we can avoid the bad weather this year.
