This board inspired me to take the Mrs.(no pics) to the island in November. We are staying at Secreto. First time, so a few questions:

1.Golf cart rental or cab it? How much should I pay and what is the best place to rent from if you recommend this route.

2. Best restaurants, and please notate if I should get reservations

3. Boat rental - is this possible and recs on vendors if so

4. Other excursions you recommend?

Thanks in advance for all of your help. The Big Island advice I got from this board was spot on.

I read both in their entirety. Also most of the pic links lead to a page that reads “access denied” or something like that.

A cab ride is $5 anywhere on the island. Golf carts run from $40-$50 a day. We usually go for 10 days and only get a golf cart for a day or two.

Has anyone stayed at any of the all-inclusives in Isla, and does anybody recommend them as compared to the ones in Cancun? Wondering if it's worth it to ferry over if I'm looking for all-inc. Thanks

There are very few and I wouldn't consider staying in one. It defeats the purpose of what Isla is all about which is a great cheap authentic Mexican destination.

Have not been there in a few years...before all the really expensive hotels surfaced.
I used to love Maria Del Mar (not a luxury hotel) right by the North Beach NW part of the island...best beach and by the Swingers Bar .. not what you are thinking

Isla is Europeanish in style and attitude where Cancun is "young USA"

I used to rent a moped or Golf Cart ... you may only need it to explore the SMALL island on one or two occasions.

Kay Tours
LINK

They have a few excursions on the island, and if you can get Rose to as tour guide it will be even better.

I don't know your age so it's tough to know what you're interested in.

There's a bird sanctury that is about an hours boat ride away. We went there and it was ok. I'm not a bird watcher but I can see where one would love a trip like that.

There's also Garrafon which is a natural reef park on the island. You can rent a golf cart and head to Punta Sur and walk the trails along the ocean which are very cool. We always do that one day and then bar hop our way back. The Joint, Soggy Peso, etc and drink and eat our way back towards Playa Norte. Beware the margaritas at Soggy Peso. Strong doesn't begin to describe them.

Isla Contoy for the bird island, Isla Holbox for swimming with whale sharks. Both awesome.

Oh, eat at Bastos. Closed on Thursday. Authentic, cheap, fantastic Mexican food. Get the flank steak and thank me later.

I've sat on that swing in the front of your photo...for a good 4-5 hours getting hammered.
