Daughter graduating from LSU, son graduating from HS. I want to do a week to 10 days. Rent a car and see the country. 2-3 days in Dublin, including one day guided bus trip to Belfast (I was told not to drive there). Thinking of Galway for 3-4 days on west coast, with day trips here and there to see stuff. I like old churches and ruins and shite. Not crazy about the idea of following tour buses around Kerry or kissing the Blarney Stone.

Help a brotha out. TIA.

The Blarney Stone is legit. But I've heard good things about Galway so you may be better off going there.

I just got back from a 9 day trip. Killarney was my favorite stop. You have to see the scenery there to really appreciate it, exceeded my expectations. Don't sell Blarney short either. Apart from kissing the stone, that's a cool castle and the grounds and gardens are large and stunning.

You can do Dublin in 2 days, spend the third in Kilkenney. I didn't make it to Belfast, but I heard nothing but good things about the Black Taxi tours and the Titanic exhibit.

It sounds cliche but Guinness brewery tour is a must in Dublin.

I don't remember anything outstanding in Belfast but check out Giants Causeway. We did a bus tour of Northern Ireland coast and we saw a bunch of small towns along the way. Very cool

We met folks at a bar who told us locals love pissing on the stone before all the tourist get there. We still did it anyway. Worth doing.

At any rate, we stayed at an awesome place called Ballymaloe House in Cork. Also did a few nights at Ballyfin which was amazing, but little pricey.

Why? It's a 3 hour drive. Not very scenic, but I think it's worth it to stay in Belfast. The city is beautiful and it's a short trip to the north coast activities (giants causeway, bushmills, rope bridge, dunluce castle).

Of all the major cities we stayed in, Belfast was my favorite.

What my folks and I did (we have tons of family in Ireland) is flew into Dublin, stayed a night or two and rented a car and drove south to Kilkenny, Cork, Waterford then stayed two nights in Dromboland (sp?) Castle, played a round of golf there and then flew out of Shannon.

Was a great vacation even though it was with my folks....and they made me drive
