Looking to make a trip with the wife and our 2 year old first week of December. Wife and I both love Christmas and want to start new family traditions. We live within driving distance (less than 5 hours) and are looking to go for 2-3 nights in early December.

Looking for recommendations on places to stay that is walking distance of everywhere we want to go and things to do with the family in the holiday spirit. We prefer hotels no BnB.

Thanks!

So… where would you want your hotel located in town? What are you looking to do?

Budget?

Stay anywhere along Magnificent Mile. I stayed at Marriot Magnificent Mile on Michigan Ave. All of the stores are decorated for Christmas. You can take the Red Line anywhere you need to go from there. Check out the Christkindlmarkets, which are German-style Christmas markets. One is in Daley Plaza, another in front of Wrigley Field. Daley Plaza was larger, but also more crowded. Wrigley was smaller, but easier to get around and shop. They have ice skating at Millennium Park (and also had it at Wrigley the one time I went). The Field Museum and the Art Institute were also decorated. Lincoln Park Zoo has an amazing Christmas lights display as well.

This would be my exact recommendation for a visitor over the holidays.

Could probably go to both Christkindlmarkets, but if I had to choose one, give me the one in Wrigleyville. Chicago's neighborhood bars decorate for Christmas, too, so it feels much more "cozy" to me + there is an ice skating rink at the Wrigleyville market (though you can walk to the ribbon skating rink at Maggie Daley). Of course, I completely understand that a weekend visitor might prefer to be downtown.

This is where my wife and I stayed when we went to the city to watch baseball.

The entrance to the red line subway is literal right outside the hotel’s front door.

Navy Pier is about a 10-15 minute walk.

A ton of great restaurants all around!

Big, huge coats and thermals for starters. I went once in January and stayed in the warm hotel almost the entire time lol.

Yup... don't forget to do this. Been here nine years and have never left my place without my bulletproof vest.
