How would you go about planning a trip to Yellowstone and Glacier National?

We would like to take a trip out west to celebrate a milestone in a couple of years and I would like to start gathering info. The thought is to spend maybe 7-10 days out west. Camping may be out of the question due to possibility of a kid, but we still want to road trip/RV.

I'd stick to Yellowstone and the Tetons.

Their are some rail options. One trip I looked at, without Yellowstone, was from Chicago to Seattle with a stopover in Glacier.

I would contact Fair Chops, he worked there last summer

Don't forget about the Sequoias if you have time

We've started talking about going to Glacier. I think we'd fly in to Calgary and drive down to get into the park.

If you really want to do Glacier and Yellowstone, you will more than 10 days. I think you would need at least 14 days, if not more.
To see Glacier, you are going to have to wait until further into the summer, so the crowds will be bigger at Yellowstone.
We went out that way for a wedding about this time of year in 2007, and just two adults, doing a ton of driving and quick visits to a few places took us 15 days, and we didn't go to Glacier because it was still snowed in.
Day 1 - all driving: Atlanta->Nashville->St. Louis->Columbia, MO (spend the night).
Day 2 - mostly driving: CoMo->KC->Sioux Falls, SD (stop to see the falls park)->Mitchell, SD (spend the night).
Day 3 - driving/sightseeing: Mitchell->Badlands NP->Rapid City->Mt. Rushmore->Gillette, WY(spend the night)
Day 4 - mostly driving: Gillette->Little Bighorn Battlefield->Bozeman, MT->West Yellowstone (spend the night)
Day 5: all sightseeing - Yellowstone and Grand Teton. Back to West Yellowstone to spend the night.
Day 6 - all driving: West Yellowstone->Bozeman->Butte->Missoula (spend the night).
Days 7 to 10 in and around Missoula for the wedding.
Day 11 - all driving: Missoula->Butte->Idaho Falls->Salt Lake City (spend the night).
Day 12 - mostly driving with a very little sightseeing in SLC that morning: SLC->Cheyenne->Ft. Collins, CO (spend the night).
Day 13 - all driving: Ft. Collins->Denver->Topeka, KS (spend the night).
Day 14 - all driving: Topeka->KC->StL->Clarksville, TN (spend the night).
Day 15 - all driving: Clarksville->Nashville->Atlanta.
