I imagine we have more than a few. Thought it would be a good idea to try and get some of us together. Yes, it defeats the purpose of solo travel. Sometimes you just don't feel like paying solo supplement though.

I like that I am on my own schedule. I get asked all the time if I am alone, why should I not see the world because I don't want a wife.

I have gone before. I went to Asia by myself once, and often go to other cities or skiing or something by myself.

I enjoy the freedom, but FWIW, it's not as fun when you're by yourself.

Travel solo on occasion. Would prefer to have a companion but won't stay home just because there's no one to go with.

I travel solo for work 80% of the year. It'd be nice to have a group to go to different places. All my friends are broke asses and only want to go to the beach.

I'd love to see more of Europe, South America, and Asia.

I'm a serious solo traveler. I'm also a roadtripper. Many times I grab my dog, and shoot out 18 hours west (or east) for 3-4 nights of camping and hiking in the mountains and nobody really knows I'm even gone.

Often I invite people, but many people are bitches and don't like to actually get out of their bubble, from what I can tell, but they love to act like they like hiking/mountain biking/ fishing in the mountains. I truly don't understand it.

I'm still very young and early in my professional career (23) but have been fortunate enough to make very quality money early on. I intend to spend a decent bit on traveling, but a majority of my friends are not quite in the same boat as me and can't afford to go places other than like short trips to the beach and stuff.

I want to see the world. I've never even left the country or seen the best it has to offer, but I just wanna go places. Work has had me in places like Vegas and Denver in the last year or two, and I've spent all my free time there exploring the surrounding area, but I would really love to go off and do it while I'm there completely for myself.

I just don't know where to start. I wanna just blow the doors off and go somewhere crazy like Austrailia or something, but I just don't know enough about traveling internationally and don't want to overwhelm myself early. So I guess my main reason for posting is: seasoned solo travelers, what tips do you recommend for a beginner? I love nature and for me, the bigger/grander the better. But I'm not the like CAMPING type really, I'd like to drive by or drive to the summit or halfway and maybe hike a few miles. Nothing extreme. Mostly for me, scenic views and stuff are key.

I'm fine with domestic things, too, for early experiences. God knows the west coast has so much stuff to see over there.

Edit, for a little clarity. I'm single, of course, so no baggage there. No pets. Budget is "medium" I would say. My cost of living is quite low so I'm easily able to put some extra away for a bit to afford a trip if it's a little pricier although I don't wanna go nuts. Stuff like car rentals and the like cost me extra because of my age, so take that into account.

Most of my first traveling experiences were solo, mostly for work. Not married at time.

I´m overseas right now travelling solo...definitely better with friends. It´s hard to get a friend to put the career on hold for a bit and come backpack though. Solo or with friends-- it´s ultimately worth it. The cultural capital, memories, and language skills change your personality and outlook on life. Also, most of the world is very poor, so it opens your eyes to better appreciate what you have and hopefully inspire you to help out by donating time or money.

This sums up my predicament as well. Louisiana doesn't offer me too much and sometimes I need to set my schedule right just to get to a destination I'm interested in. I really miss living in Vegas where so much was close by.

I have a couple friends that are always in for a trip. It makes it fun, but as I think about it, it's been a while since we have gone anywhere. Trying to convince a few buddies to hike Macchu Piccu next spring. Like most, everyone talks a big game, but when it comes down to pulling the trigger, that thins the heard.

Macchu Piccu is one I want to do, but not sure if I want to roll solo. I agree, everyone is down until it is time to pay.

I honestly prefer traveling alone. I can do what I want, see what I want to see, go at my own pace, and not be bothered.

ETA: I'm referring to road trip travel.

Only thing I'm hesitant about is the social scene, bars, etc.

That isn't bad, if you are a personable person in Europe you can go into a bar and find someone to talk with.
Everyone I met was friendly and willing to chat especially once they found out that I was American. Usually you can ask a bartender a place to go at night and they will give you a few suggestions. It is how I found a beer bar in Italy.

For someone looking to get into doing some solo traveling, what are some good places to go within 6 hours of Baton Rouge? Given that I have a weekday job, I'm looking to just do some weekend trips here and there to get out and get comfortable with traveling alone.
