Heading to Orlando in January. Whole family of 6 is going. Right now, I can fly Delta for $2012 for all 6 of us. Should I jump on that now? Will seats possibly get cheaper or do I run too much of a risk of prices going up or running out of seats?

Also, what is the minimum amount of time you'd leave yourself for a layover in Atlanta? The outbound flight would leave us 41 min layover. Return flight would leave us 38 minutes. Not so much worried about the return flight as I can catch a later one. But don't want to have to catch a later one on the outbound flight as it end up wasting an entire day (headed to Disney). My other option is to pay $300 extra and fly United to Houston and have a 1 hour 12 min layover.

We are also heading to Disney in January and just bought our tickets for similar price. I didn't think it was worth it to wait.

I really don't think prices will go down. So I guess it's just a matter of me pulling the trigger and stop trying to convince myself that it'll be just as easy to drive.
Now my main concern is the short layover. It's the difference in getting to Disney at noon vs late at night and wasting the entire day.

I ask everyone the same question: What dates are you looking at? Why not just fly southwest on the nonstop? The prices should definitely get cheaper depending on when in January. Over New Years, it may only go up. Mid January not around the holiday, it should go down.

The Delta people can clarify the needed time in Atlanta, I usually give myself at least 40 minutes just to be safe. With 6 people I have a feeling that'd be a little chaotic, but the gate agent should hold the plane if you've got a group that big.

Outbound on 1/7/17. Returning on 1/14/17.

Flying out of Monroe. Closest Southwest airport is in NOLA, 5 hours away.

I know a lot depends on actually getting to the gate on time. But those small jets are usually at a terminal pretty far away from ones flying into Orlando.

Okay, leaving from Monroe it's $2012 like you saw on Delta. For your flights going to orlando, just book the 41 min connection. If for some reason you don't make it, the next flight leaves an hour later. On the way back, I would be hesitant to book that 38 minute connection. That flight Atlanta to Monroe is the last flight of the night so if you don't make it, you're stuck in Atlanta for the night. Instead of leaving at 5:30pm, just book the flight leaving Orlando at 3:30pm or 4:30 so it gives you 2 hr 38 min or 1 hr 38 min. Plenty of time to grab dinner too if you want. Here's the google flights link to your flights with the 3:30pm return. LINK
Leaving from Alexandria it's $1778 for 6 people on Delta, but timing isn't as good and you'd have to drive down there.

At this point I can't see it hurting you to book, it may go down in the future but since you're flying from a small airport like Monroe it will likely only go up. Plus you never have to look at flights again

Just booked them. Had actually already dropped down to $1982 saving me a whole $30!!

It was almost a cluster, however. I didn't realize that Delta now had basic tickets that won't allow you to choose your seats when you purchase the tickets. Last thing I need is for my 3 year old to be stuck sitting by strangers on his first time in a plane. So I called customer service and they got us all on the same aisle. Problem solved.

Not if its Delta. We had a group of 10 watch the door close as we ran to gate 3 minutes late. It got ugly and 2 were arrested and we sat for 4 hrs thinking about it.i never go less than an hour.

This is a good rule. If I don't need to eat, I like have about 10 minutes to piss/walk between gates and be there around the time boarding starts.

All depends on where in the plane you sit.ast row you are screwed on a tight connection. First class you make a 35 minute connection even with a terminal change and bathroom stop

I'm glad Southwest flies direct out of MSY. Pretty cheap too.
