I'm looking for a few suggestions:
1. What are the best excursions to try out?
2. What are some things to do in the town around the resorts?
3. Are the 2 golf courses worth playing?
4. How bad is the bus ride from the airport to the resort?

We have the 2 story suite and the butler service, so we are expecting to always have a reservation for dinner and a bunk by the beach. Just looking for any advice on the area from those who have done a Sandals trip in St. Lucia.

We went to the Grande, which is on the Northside of the island.

1. The zipline Excursion was a blast but if you ziplined before it’s pretty much all the same.
2. We also went with a group of about 10 on tour that was sold on the beach. The tour guides take you snorkeling, then to the Pitons, then you dock in Castries, where you shop and then take a bus ride to the volcanic steam baths where you can climb into cover yourself ash. Finally they bus you down to “ family” house where they cook you dinner. Pretty good island food. Back on the boat and to the resort.
3. Most importantly, Take the helicopter ride from the airport. Great experience and after all airplane travel you land almost immedialty get on the helicopter instead of waiting for buses to load.

We are looking at the zipline excursion, but I would love to try out the snorkeling/boat trip. We will look into that for one day.

How do I go about scheduling the helicopter flight from the airport? That may end up being a nice surprise for the Mrs once we arrive.

My thoughts based on our trip in 2011:
1. We did the same tour mentioned above with the snorkeling, pitons, shopping, volcano, etc. It seemed sketchy but turned out to be very nice.

2. Never went to town other than the tour. I'd resort hop. The Grande had the best beach/pool from what I remember.

3. The 9 hole course is nice. I rented clubs and enjoyed it.

4. We reserved a private car for ~80USD and I wish I had spent the money on the helicopter. The car ride almost made me sick and took forever. We took the bus ride back to the airport at the end of the trip and I just remember feeling cramped and uncomfortable with my wife and 8 strangers.

4. Bad. Do the helicopter ride.

If you go to the Grande you can hike up Pigeon Island National Park. LINK

Highly recommend it, great views, and was the site of an Old British fort.

Joe Knows Boat Tour. If possible, get the boat Chocolate Thunder captains. Had a great time with him and his crew.

We did our honeymoon at the same resort last March and enjoyed it.

1) We only did the deep sea fishing, fishing was slow, we caught a barracuda and a couple wahoo, my wife got sea sick and puked, I drank beer the entire time so I had fun.

I wish we'd maybe have done one other excursion but mostly just hung around the resort and drank a ton.

We heard alot about the Joes Knows tours but opted out after seeing them unload a group on the beach. The tours are on about a 30' center console offshore boat, the tour came in as we were sitting on the beach, with the crew there was 32 people on that boat, it was packed and everyone looked miserable.

2) With the exception of the fishing excursion we never left the resort. I'm probably being irrational but I didn't want to go wondering around in town in practically a third world country with no phone service or way to contact anyone in the event of an emergency. I realize I'm probably being over cautious. Our driver for the fishing trip told us every Friday they have a huge street party that's supposed to be a big deal.

3) don't play golf

4) Bus ride wasn't as bad as I expected, they say about 1.5 hours but it took less than an hour, apparently speed limits are more of a suggestion. When you get to the airport they put all the Sandals people in a separate room and you can crush a few beers before they load you up. You get to see some cool views of the coast which I'm sure would be better in a helicopter if you choose to pay up, I believe someone told me it was ~$600 for the helicopter. You don't go straight to the resort though, they land at a small airport near the resort then taxi you there.

The best meal we had was at the french restaurant(reservation only), we ate there our last night, I wished we'd have booked that one early when we got there and again our last night. I don't believe we had a bad meal, just some stuff was better than others. Sushi was good, hibachi place was meh, Italian place wasn't bad. Service was always hit or miss, I wished we could have tipped because at times I felt the lack of being able to tip lead to crappy service at some of the lower dinner & lunch spots

The main pool/swim up bar was fun to hang out at but there's another pool/swim up bar at the top of the hill that seems like no one knew about so there was only ever 5-10 people at that one.

ETA: CSB, Matt Canada and his wife were in the room next door to us, he and his wife were very nice.

We stayed at La Toc 2 years ago.

The zip lining was fun. I wasn't interested but the wife was. I'm glad we did it.

Joe knows tour is a must.

We went to the Grand for a day and wish we would have done two days. If I were to do it again, we would stay there. The vibe at the beach/pool is much better for a younger couple. La Toc is much more laid back focused on food.

Oh and Joe knows tour is a must

Helicopter ride is for vaginas FYI

Go visit at least one of the towns
We did the jeep tour, it was fun but our guide was cool. I could see it not being fun with a shite guide.
Scuba-depending how long you are there(cant go so many hours before and after flights)
Like someone said helicopter at least one way if you can. Van rides are long but they stop for beer

bunk by the beach

sorry the beach sucks at your resort

Not sure on what you are used to as far as dining, but be prepared to be underwhelmed if you eat at decent restaurants. When you get there look at all the activities they plan and see if you want to go to any of them. they repeat weekly. Some of the games/contest activities they give away free stuff.

Sandals does a good job of keeping you in their pockets with their activities, selected guides, etc..., dont be afraid to explore outside of the sandals world on the island

Buddy of mine still talks about this 10 years after going down there for a week. He stayed out all night partying with the locals.

Went in 2010, about 1.5 months after a hurricane. Their infrastructure is awful, as you might expect. Any hard rains caused massive flooding around the resort (within elevators, etc) and the towns.

The drive in is pretty curvy/scary/long. If either of you have motion sickness, it's rough.

We zip lined (horrific/scary experience due to rain - see infrastructure above), but it was standard tropical views, and we property-hopped within the Sandals properties, which was a nice change for a day. I personally would not recommend leaving the Sandals resorts.

Overall, the resort (restaurants, pools, beaches etc.) was very enjoyable. I highly recommend a couple's massage.

You're stepping in high cotton son! Got me beat.

I'll be there in June as well.

I've been told to do the luxury catamaran cruise. More expensive, but also more exclusive (10-12 people).

Also been told to take a day/night and go visit the towns. Apparently there's a good night life atmosphere and it's relatively safe.

We did Joe knows and it was awesome. Highly recommend it. We also had a free catamaran night cruise when we checked in. It included snorkeling by the pitons.

I didn't play, but you have to pay for a mandatory caddy.

Pretty awful. Those drivers are crazy and pass people on these 2 lane, mountain winding roads. If you get car sick easily, you will be sick.

The resort overall is nice. The swim up bar is awesome and they have events all day everyday. If they have the street party, that's the most fun. All kinds of food and drink with some cool entertainment. This is the best food you'll have at the resort.

The restaurants are hit or miss, mostly miss. The pub is cool and has decent wings.

The sushi bar was awful IMO. The teppenyaki was good. Lots of food and it's a beautiful view.

The fancy French place was okay. Decent escargot. Steaks are awful at the whole resort. Thin cut.

The best food honestly was the pavilion buffet. The breakfast is awesome. They have some authentic creole stuff they'll rotate in.
