Sort of narrowing down our destination search to these two places. We're using Costco's all-inclusive deals for booking, etc. Riviera Maya looks like a place with a lot going on. Looks to me like a long strip with shopping, resorts, restaurants, etc. I'm interested in seeing some temples and the general landscape that it may have to offer. On the other hand, Jamaica seems to have a lot more to do in the way of excursions and what not. I tend to like the way the Mexican resorts are laid out and how nice they all appear to be, so I may be leaning that direction. Any ideas and/or opinions on either location? Any experience with any of the resorts booking thru Costco, and any tips with getting possible upgrades with them if so? T.I.A

Spent mine in Ocho Rios, lots to do like you said but the beaches on the north shore kind of suck. never been to the south side of Jamaica but I hear the beaches are much prettier/enjoyable there.

Mexico is like the Biloxi of the Caribbean. You can have fun, drink, and feel great but the nicer vacation is further to the east.

Negril is awesome.

If you can afford elsewhere, you should try that. Neither of those destinations are honeymoon worthy imho except at the really, really best resorts. Spend another $1500 and go to Portugal or Spain? Maybe since you live in Florida you can find a smoking hot flight deal to one of many Caribbean islands?

Jamaica. I've been there 4 times and to Riviera Maya 2 times. I'll never go back to Mexico unless it's a free trip.

Most resorts have better accommodations. If you go off the resort, there's no "lost in translation" moments when dealing with currency. Also, the resort employees go out of their way to take care of you, whether at the resort or if you are on an excursion.

I wouldn't go venturing out in either place alone without a chaperone, though.

I honeymooned at Sandals Royal Caribbean and Private Island. Been there 2 times and would love to go back.

All sorts of choices, though. Depends on what you like. Small vs big, quiet vs loud, etc.

I just got back from my honeymoon. We went to St John. It was amazing. If that can be in the cards for you I'd highly recommend it.

Went on our honeymoon in March, stayed at the Luxury Bahia Principe Resort which is located in Runaway Bay, Jamaica. I loved Jamaica, everyone we encountered with that was Jamaican was in a good mood, positive vibes mon, yea mon. That resort is about a 45 minute bus ride from Montego Bay. Really my only complaint the entire time I was at the resort were the maids, they tried to come clean our room and turn the sheets over either at 5:00 pm when I was getting my pre-dinner exercise on, or sometimes after 9:00 pm if we decided to call it a night. Besides that it was awesome, would definitely recommend to do the 9 mile tour which is where Bob Marley was laid to rest and Dunn's River Falls.
