Getting married in September, honeymoon after and want to do France and Italy over 10 days.

Been to Paris (BFF hasn't so we've gotta go) and I've been to Rome and Cinque Terre.

Any suggestions or things to think about?

Thinking we fly into Paris, spend 2-3 nights, train through switzerland to lake Como and then do Positano/Almafi and fly out of Rome.

Live in Dallas. There was some irony at the time.

The only thing I will say is that it is one long travel day from Lake Como to the Amalfi Coast. Maybe Cinque Terre instead?

I’ll be the one. 10 days isn’t enough to do both properly. Pick one.

It’ll let you focus on one culture, language, etc

Personally if your wife’s priority is Paris, do Paris, then maybe Champagne/Reims, places like Lyon, the Riviera, Alsace/Colmar.

That’s always my advice. Simplify.

It's your honeymoon. You don't want to spend the whole trip on planes and trains.

5 days Paris
5 days Tuscany

I personally wouldn’t leave France for the entire time. Paris/Nice

Use Rome2Rio to plan your train travel. The high speed trains get you from Paris to the Mediterranean coast (Marseille) faster than you can get from Marseille to Barcelona, for instance, because of the different kinds of trains that run to different cities.

Unless you're planning on doing stuff between Paris and Como, I would 100% fly from Paris to Milan. It's a TEN HOUR train ride from Paris. If you want to do something in Switzerland, I would fly from Paris, then train it to Milan from Zurich. I don't see anything that stands out on that route in France that you couldn't find anywhere else in country.

That’s a pretty terrible itinerary OP. I’d do something like go to Merseille and then northern Italy Coast. Could even do Venice.

Or fly from Paris to rome.

For the honeymoon you generally want 2-3 days to chill. Weddings are tiring and the travel and what not will be. It’s nice to not go somewhere you need to run around to see stuff.

If you want to impress the hell out of her (particularly if you have Marriott status) book the Prince De Galles in Paris. Email them telling them the occasion, and I have no doubt they will impress CurrentWife to be.

Oh, and for sure, book a private cruise (on a boat that sits maybe 15, not one of the giant boats you've probably already noticed) of the Seine and stack your iPhone with gangster rap. The guys running the cruises have heard enough Sinatra and the like to blow their brains out. You leave after dusk, and you turn around after the Eiffel tower (if they're still lighting it due to the energy "crisis".) On the return, you circle around the Notre Dame before returning to the dock about 250m from the Notre Dame. We did this for another couple's anniversary the week after ND burned down.

Was looking at De Galle or 4 seasons for sure.

Rome and Southern Italy is definitely a reach. Was thinking back to my 4 weeks in Europe after college when we did 9 countries.

She's pretty enthralled with Lake Como. Thinking flying into Milan, doing Como for 3-4 days with a car, fly from Milan to Paris and then back home is doable?

Just no sure Milan/Como is worth it. Trying to tell her Milan is actually kind of shitty and is still fairly far from legit Tuscany.

Trying to get her off Como and stick to France.

Anyone done the Riviera? Best spots down there?

I've been at De Galle twice. The 4 Seasons seemed to be where the Arabs stayed with many blond "assistants."

Rome has near zero value. Tiger Stadium is a better impression of the Coliseum than the Coliseum is. Trevi Fountain, etc., are done in under a day, and they're not impressive. I don't believe it's worth the time on a honeymoon trip.

Her Como obsession is probably based on social media/chirping friends. You're going to do what she wants to do, but Barcelona (EZ trip from Paris by train) is more impressive than much of Italy. Barcelona is a city of snack, drink, snack, drink, and a few druggies. But I don't need to go to Como to see stuff I can see in Arkansas or Georgia. This is the W in Barcelona:

Trips within the EU by plane are generally cheap and easy, but you may be flying airlines you've never heard of before.

You can pick nearly anywhere on the Med and you'll have a beautiful view. At this point, we've kind of justified flights to Sicily or Croatia. :D

Been to Barca, Croatia and Rome. Rome was just proximity to the southern coast and direct flight in. Definitely know it’s pretty meh.

The best thing I took away from Rome (apart from the American Cemetery at Nettuno) was a co worker telling me, "TexasTiger, do you know what a nanosecond is? The time between the light turns green and when the people behind you start honking."

Only reason I love Romans. I could pass on the four hour f*(@ing dinners with office folk.

Milan is much closer to the Piedmonte wine region than it is to Tuscany. It's not close to Tuscany at all.

For a honeymoon I'd be doing Florence and Tuscany over Milan. Much more of a romantic setting.

Yea I only mentioned Milan because of Como. It sucks.

Trying to convince her we just stick to France. I’ve been to Paris, it’s incredible. Just need to button down some things in the riviera. Have to be on the water some.

1. Milan does not suck. Plenty of great food, architecture (Duomo), and art (The Last Supper).

2. If you do go there from Paris, you should fly. The fast train takes too long due to stops in France.

Spend more time in Paris, high speed train to Switzerland for a few days around the Alps, then down to Lake Como for the rest of your time and fly home from Milan airport. That would be a nice mixture of romance and sightseeing for a honeymoon. You could maybe sub Venice for Como as well.

If you don’t mind losing most of a day flying from Milan to Paris, I think Como and Paris would make for an awesome honeymoon. Como is incredible. And a great place to spend time as a newly married couple.
