Help come up with something for family to do on the 20th

We'll be staying either in NO or Lafayette (or anyone have other suggestions) on the 20th, probably arrive about noon and head out the next day about noon ish. We'll have three kids with us, youngest is 9 oldest is 12. 3 adults.
What should we do? The aquarium and insectarium are options but we've been there/done that. I've never been to the ww2 museum and would like to go but not sure if they'd like it.
What is there to do in Lafayette? If we go there we might do the seafood cookoff at the Cajun dome. Other thoughts/suggestions?
Also any thoughts on where to stay? Don't really want to pay much.

Well there is a neat little zoo in Broussard .. kids may like that. There is a blueberry picking place not far from Broussard (google bayou blues broussard). Children's museum in Lafayette but probably not good for the 12 yo.
There's truly not much to do in Lafayette ... airboat tour of the Atchafalaya Basin?? Think they do those from Magee's Landing (sp? Again, try google for this info)
