Has anyone hiked the Salkantey trek to Machu Picchu?

I recently looked into it. The consensus seems to be that this hike is more scenic and less crowded than the famous Inca Trail.
It's 45 miles and is generally done in 4 or 5 days. First 2 are uphill and reach an altitude of 15,000 feet. That's pretty rough, and you would need to spend a few days in Cusco acclimating before starting the hike. If you aren't an experienced hiker in good shape, you probably want to use a tour operator or guide. There are lots of them offering a range of services, such as porter your pack, set up tents and cook the food.
I might still do this hike, but I'm leaning towards just doing the segment to Humantay Lake as a day hike coupled with a few other day hikes like Rainbow Mountain. I don't feel the need to walk to Machu Picchu.

Just went to Machu Picchu. It was awesome, but don't see how it would be worth hiking 3-5 days to get there. The food and other things to do in Peru are way more enjoyable than spending 3-5 days hiking

I follow a travel vlog couple that did the Inca Quarry Trail. They said it is different than the Inca trail. They posted a 3 part vlog of their trek. Here is a link, but if it doesn't work just go to Flying the Nest and search Machu Picchu.

Just so you know, rainbow mountain peaks at just above 17,000 feet. Gonna be a bitch regardless of how long you acclimate or how big your wad of leaves is.

You also have the people who train to the base but walk up instead of using the buses.
