Going to Disney in 9 days and our dining reservations suck.

Got a group of 11. Sept 14-17
Me, the wife, 16 month old
Sister, Bro-in-law, 3 kids (6,3,1)
Mom, Dad, and Cousin (23)
Yes I know sounds miserable, right? Its ok I actually enjoy spending time with my family.
We booked past the 180 days and all have free dining but reservations suck even though ive been pretty active trying to secure the good ones. Any tips or suggestions? Making groups of 11 was impossible and really only got a character breakfast at 7:35 am at Cape May. After that im not sure how else to use the dining credit. Got a be our guest for 6 on the day we are supposed to be in Hollywood Studios and got a castle reservation for 6 but cant find anything for the other 5. Friday is a party night so most reservations in magic kingdom are a no go since we gotta be out by 7. We arent foodies and dont need awesome meals but was hoping to get some meals together that we and the kids would all enjoy. Others im looking at is Tusker House and Coral reef.
Any chance at day of reservations or what should my strategy be.

Disney, with a 15 month old, 1 yr. old,3 yr. old etc. and you're most concerned with dining choices ???...LOL

Take the bus and eat at Downtown Disney. All of the food in the park is priced like a 3 Michellin star restaurant but the quality is worse than the frozen food aisle at Walmart. Unfortunately my son and I didn't find this out until our fourth day there. Ended up eating at a Wolfgang Puck place and I can't tell you how releaving it was to eat actual food, and the price was half what I would have paid for really crappy food in the park.

I feel bad for this one. Disney sucks if you are an adult without friends/SO and surrounded by kids that you have to plan around.

Tusker House is the best breakfast I've had in Disney so far. Also, you can use free dining at any place you eat. You can also trade unused credits for (I think) 3 snacks.
We went last September and felt the dining plan was a waste. It is way too much food for me and my family.
Quick service options are also available even if you have the table service plan. Flaming Tree BBQ is a good quick service option in Animal Kingdom.
I would also use a lot of your snack options at Epcot since there are so many good options.
I'll be interested to hear if you think it is worth it after you return.

Break your dining reservations into two reservations of 5 people and 6 people. That is the best advice I can give you.

I have read additional reservations open at 10pm for the following day.
Outside the countries in Epcot and the BBQ place in the Animal Kingdom, it seems to me all Disney World food tastes the same.

Pretty much is the same and expensive. Eat a big breakfast before the park, small lunch then head out somewhere not within parks for dinner.

We have a travel board?

Try some of the resort restaurants. One of my personal favorites is O'Hana at the Polynesian. And it's easy to get to as it's on the monorail line.
The Disney Springs (Downtown Disney) idea is a good one too. Lots of restaurants in that area that are on the dining plan. T Rex, Rainforest Cafe, etc are all down there. Not all are really kid friendly though. My wife and I went to STK one night without the kids and it was basically a club atmosphere at a restaurant. It would have been terrible with my two year old.

Are you going through a travel agent? We used a travel agent for Disney in June and she made all of our dinner reservations for us. It was beyond great.

quote:Definitely eat some meals there. I don't remember the specific places, but I thought they were great. One French restaurant was especially good. The character restaurants food isn't special but the experience is nice, especially for younger kids.
the countries in Epcot

Boathouse at downtown Disney is the best restaurant imo
One of the few with actually fresh seafood

Mexico has some fresh guacamole and chips that are delish. Drink a few of those avocado margaritas and they will be saying " What kids?"
