Different things to do in Tennessee (Gatlinburg Area)

Save the pancakes, throwing stars, and fudge jokes. I go to the area often (and eat pancakes often lol)
But seriously, me and the wife are heading up there in august. What are some things to do in the area or within 2hrs of the area that are not thought of often. We Love outdoors, but will not be hiking over 2miles. Any places to see, or any things to do that isnt so mainstream and thought of much in the area?

We both are probably in better physical shape than 95% of this board.
But if you must know, my wife has a previous knee injury from basketball, and her knee will swell if too much walking/running for an extended period of time.

Gotcha. Drive the Roaring Forks Motor Trail in GSMNP and pull off for several of the shorter hikes along there.

Have you done the Parsons Branch rd connecting Cades Cove and US129?

Get a guide and do a float trip fly fishing the pigeon river. They have some very nice browns and rainbows in there. And a ton of them as well. Dad and I did it a couple summers back and I think I landed 15-20 trout, one going like 3 lbs

Is bike riding out?
We biked Cades Cove on Wednesday when it's closed to cars. Fairly easy 13 miles. I'm in good shape but don't really bike ride much at all.

It's pricey, but once I did the helicopter tour, I can't go to the Smokeys area without taking a one hour flight.

actually never done this one.
Also we have talked about bike riding cades, and we may try that.
and i would LOVE to do the guided fly fishing, but i would have to alone, the wife doesnt fish haha. I always take my ultra lite spinning reel and fish in the streams on my own some and caught a few brown trout.
