We are looking to go somewhere Mardi Gras week next year for our family. 2 adults, 1 13 and 1 11 year old. We were considering Atlantis. It would cost about 5500 for 5 five nights. That’s not all inclusive. I’ve heard it’s very expensive once you get there.

Any suggestions or feedback welcome.

First you need to decide what you wanna do. Beach all day and enjoy resort or an island that has excursions. There are some places like Turks and Caicos with beautiful beaches but not much else outside of the resort and water activities. Or you could go St Lucia with mountains and hiking and golf and such. Several options in between. Do you want a resort or an air bnb type house where you might need to get groceries and such. Depending on your style that would narrow down your options.

Atlantis is nice but very touristy and crowded. It’s not a relaxing vacation in my opinion.

I think I would prefer a resort over an Airbnb. I would want some activities whether it’s excursions or other stuff for the kids to do. Probably wouldn’t do much hiking or golf with the kids.

Beaches T&C although your kids might be getting a tad older for it.

Bitter End Yacht Club and Little Dix Bay resort. Both are on Virgin Gorda, BVI. Please note that I don't know their prices or your budget.

What are your top priorities for the trip? Good water, activities, good food, etc.

We went to Baha Mar over Easter break, with a 12, 6 and 25 year old. I’m not usually a resort person, but we had a blast. It was immaculately clean, great pools, the water park was a lot of fun for the kids and never crowded. Good bars for us, and some younger pool clubs for the 25 year old.

It’s about the same nightly rate as Atlantis (1k+) but we were able to book it for 20k Hyatt points a night. One of the best redemption rates I have come across.

We’re doing Beaches TC in July and it was right at 12K for 4 people. Kids are 10 and 4.

That’s 5 nights with flights out of MSY.

I would say those three in that order are probably the top priority outside of safe places. I'm hoping to keep it less than 10k for all 4 after everything.

All inclusive with kids is tricky because the whole purpose of an all inclusive value is drinking and eating enough to make the cost worth it. With kids they won’t eat enough and can’t drink but still get charged a ton. Beaches in Turks is great but definitely not cheap and your kids are on the older side. I mentioned a house because there are awesome houses in the Virgin Islands that you can rent and drive to different beaches while also doing some boat excursions.

Any island would offer your typical snorkeling, parasailing, and other water activities. Just gotta find one with flights in your price range and a resort that you like.

Second Baha Mar over Atlantis for your needs. BM is newer and nicer than Atlantis (shows some wear and tear).

But both are nice and serve the same purpose.

Atlantis is a very nice property but it is incredibly expensive. The hotel staff is not at all friendly either. Unless my trip is free I won’t go back to Atlantis.
