Car rentals - What is your best way to rent a car during vacation?

I normally book ahead of time on priceline/kayak.
Am I missing something? Any special website, deals or other ways to rent a car for a better rate? TIA
- I have heard that Costco had great rates but I'm guessing no internatiional b/c they didn't have anything at Aruba airport.

Check out Turo, which used to be called Relay Rides. It's like AirBNB for cars. I've used it a few times. As long as you won't be driving a ton of miles, it works out great. Most of the owners have a max mileage each day for their cars.

I rented a SUV in March in Aruba. I used Budget from their Airport location with no problem. Booked it via Kayak, I think.
Rental cars there are usually beat up pretty good, the roads are good but it's generally arid and rocky and access to the beautiful NE Coast is off paved roads.
I always film (with my phone) the vehicle when I pick up an international rental, windshields are a particular scam target for unscrupulous rental operators. Note any nick or flaw on them.
Have a great trip, good luck.

Great tip. I'll have to remember to do this.
How was Aruba? Any must see or do while having the advantage of a vehicle on the island?

Hotwire usually have some crazy deals so check them out often. I used it on our last 2 trips. Tampa on July 1st~4th last year I rented a full size car for $12.99 per day.

Aruba is very arid, it looks like a moonscape with cactuses. The Dutch influence there is great, it's really efficient for the Carribean.
The North Coast is undeveloped but easily accesible, even with a rental car, not Jeep. There are places you need a Jeep to get to but a car will get you most places just fine. I had a 4Runner with 4WD and it was fine.
The diving/snorkeling is great. The beaches are OK, they can be crowded around the hotel's but there are plenty of other beaches all around the island. The NE point was cool, it's off the beaten path. Sunrise from the North Coast was my best memory there.
This is some of the landscape there-

I find its best to book the car off the airport location. Its all most always cheaper this way.
