I’ll be traveling to France in a few months for work business for a week (m-Fri). I was planning on taking a few days of vacation on the back end to see some of France.

I’ve never been to Europe before, so any suggestions are welcome.

I’m also trying to figure how many extra days makes since?

Update:
So my flight has been booked… Leaving BTR Saturday mid day and arriving in Lyon Sunday AM. I’m staying near Lyon Part-Dieu station Sunday-Friday. I booked my flight back Wednesday AM out of Charles de Gaulle in Paris.

Any advice for how to spend my time between Friday mid day to Wednesday? I’ll need to eventually get to Paris for Wednesday AM flight.

Where in France?

If Paris, don’t leave Paris.

Yeah I agree I would just do Paris and spend your time there since it’s your first trip to Europe. It would be the easiest thing, the most people speaking English, easy public transport, and you could spend a month in Paris and not see “everything”.

I’d give yourself 5 days in Paris. If you have extra days take day trips to Champagne/Reims, or Versailles, or Normandy etc.

If you have more time then you could spend time in other parts or even places like Amsterdam.

How many days is defined by your availability of time off and by your budget.

You could spend a month in France and not see everything.

Thanks… I’ll be outside of Lyon. If I travel back to Paris after my work is done, I’d probably stay Saturday-Wednesday there.

Any must sees? I’m not big on art galleries. I’d love to go to Normandy for at least a day trip to see some WW2 stuff.

There will be plenty to do in Lyon most likely, also you need to look at your work schedule as the French aren’t well known for long hours so you may be able to fit a decent tourist schedule in your week there.

If you are flying through Paris, sure spend some time in Paris it’s an amazing city.

Small cities and urban Europe is vastly under rated though. Id suggest just spending some time around there exploring and relaxing. Will be a great time no matter what.

Few days? First time to Europe? I agree with the people who say stay in Paris the whole time.

That’s a pretty far travel, but it’s great. You’re close enough to Annecy and that’s beautiful.

Since you're going to Lyon I will give you an alternative to Paris, if you want.

Lyon is one of the culinary capitals of the world.

Do you like wine?

Just above it you have Beaujolais and Burgundy. Just below you have the Rhone Valley.

You could spend a lot of time in some of the best wine country on earth, visiting beautiful little towns, touring and tasting at some of the oldest and best vineyards anywhere.

You could also either go down to the French Riviera and spend time in Nice or Cannes...or spend time in absolutely gorgeous Annecy, or even go all the way up to Alsace and spend time in Colmar and Strasbourg.

You really cannot go wrong.

Short train rides to Brussels, Antwerp, and Amsterdam.

Do all 3.

I wouldn't recommend Brussels to a first time Europe traveler, personally.

It kinda sucks for straight tourism in my opinion, but that could just be me.

Definitely more of a business city

Since you are flying out of CDG but starting in Lyon, I'd recommend booking refundable hotel nights in Paris. Plan on training there and spending all your time there, but with the refundable nights have some flexibility.

After a day or two in Lyon you may find you need more time there, spend one full day of Paris just to see the big stuff and call it a trip.

Still have no idea really. I have Friday afternoon-Wednesday early AM open. I’m set for being in Lyon for work stuff Sunday-Friday, but the last 5 days are still wide open
