Big Island Beaches

Not sure it's on the list of "absolute best beaches," but the black sand at Punalu'u is an experience itself. Unfortunately, it's quite a ways from Hapuna.

there is a scenic overlook on northern part of island east of hawi. have to climb down a good trek to the small beach but view is great at the overlook at the end of the road. most beaches other than hapuna require a hike.
