Looking for suggestions. Will be there for three nights. Close to attractions, transportation, clean, and safe.

I didn't find anything unsafe about Florence.
We stayed at Hotel Lungarno. It's right on the Arno overlooking the Ponte Vecchio which is a beautiful sight particularly at night. It's not cheap but it does have a Michelin restaurant.
It's a short walk across the Ponte Vecchio to Florence proper and none of the main attractions are much of a walk from there.
Apparently the hotel is being completely redone (it was very nice when we stayed there in 2015) and is reopening in June.

Hotel degli orafi is where we stayed. Nice place, very close to everything. Good breakfast

We're staying in an Air BnB. It was $124/night and it's about a 10min. walk from the Duomo.
ETA: I just mapped it. It's a 4min. walk, but who's counting anyway.

Hotel La Scaletta. Literally next door to the Pitti Palace & Boboli Gardens and it's right down the street from the Ponte Vecchio.
Very nice rooftop terrace as well.

We stayed at Torre di Bellosguardo, it's on a hilltop south of the city. Beautiful views of Florence, and the cab ride into the city wasn't too long.

I've recommended this place before and I'll continue to do so in any Florence thread because it was that good.
B&B Dell'olio
It's a short walk from the train station and steps away from the duomo. Owner is incredibly friendly and the rates are fair.
