Best hikes around Asheville?

Looking for a few hikes that are easy to moderate within an hour to 90 minutes from Asheville. Actually, any west of Charlotte or west of Winston-Salem on the way to Asheville.
What about a particular great stretch along the Blue Ridge parkway headed in to Asheville?
going to hit about seven places along the NC BBQ Trail from Charlotte up to Winston-Salem. Any great places not on that trail from that stretch and west that you recommend? Thanks.

Roan Mt. section of the AT. You can park at Carver's Gap. Walk North and the trail crosses a series of balds. Not too hard but very senic.

Check out Mount Mitchell. It's the highest peak east of the Mississippi. It's so high in altitude that it has a unique ecology that you'd usually find up north in New England and Canada. The Boone/Linville area is also very nice and easy to get to from Winston-Salem. You can get on the Blue Ridge Parkway up there too.

Almost any segment of the Mountain to Sea Trail is good. Many trail heads along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I don't have any specific suggestions on trails but the All Trails App has come in useful for me when traveling. It's free so give it a try.
