Trying to plan a trip for Mid-December and it's overwhelming trying to figure out what island to go to. Right now I'm looking at Aruba, Bahamas, and Turks and Caicos. But open to any others. I'm wanting to go for the best beach overall. But would like good dining options and excursions. Also if there is such a thing as an all inclusive that serves better food than Applebee's then I'd love to hear any experiences there too.

I'm sure I can't go wrong with any of the three, but if anyone here has taken a recent trip or know someone who has and has a recommendation I'd love to hear it. TIA

I went to TCI 4 months ago. Hands down the brat beach anywhere! Grace Bay I think was voted #1 recently. The down side is TC Islands are remote. 1 chain has only 400 residents. Of your want remote, beautiful scenery, and a romantic get away go to Turks. The draw back is the restaurant scene is not that good of a variety. They have options but it's not like walking out the door and finding stuff. Excursions were awesome! You can walk in the water a mile out. Excellent scuba and snorkel. I recommend carribean crusin'. Get Captain Rice

Also Mudjin Harbor is hands down the GOAT. Google it

If you want simply the best beach then Grace Bay Beach on Providenciales, Turks & Caicos probably wins hands down.

However, you also said best Caribbean island and I'd put St. John, Anguilla, St. Barth, St. Kitts & Nevis and the BVI in the running. I probably missed a couple.

If you want affordable and a great island you cannot go wrong with Roatan.

I've been all over the Caribbean and by far my favorite place is Nevis. Stayed at the Four Seasons Resort and everything was perfect.

Food on the Island is very good and the sights and sounds are incredible. It is kind of a pain to get to though, having to land in St. Kitts and boat in to Nevis.

Beautiful relaxing place.

I second this. You have to take a ferry to North Caicos then rent a car and drive across the causeway (which hopefully Matthew won't wipe out again) to Middle Caicos and then drive to Mudjin Harbor which is the prettiest little beach you'll ever see.

The restaurant scene on Providenciales is fantastic. Yes, you have to take a cab to restaurants but I have to strongly disagree with you. There are many very good restaurants on that island.

ETA: Didn't down vote you. Who down votes a travel board post?

Hard to beat St. John. Very natural and not commercialized. If you want a change of pace, take the ferry over to St. Thomas. One of my favorites.

Or take the ferry to the BVI. Just bring your passport on the trip.

The BVIs are probably my favorite group of islands in the Caribbean. But they are best seen by chartering a boat and going from island to island.

St. Barths is a great place to spend a few days, but requires a car so you can drive from beach to beach.

Grace Bay Beach on the island of Providenciales (Turks and Caicos) is beautiful. Hard to go wrong here. Not a lot of nightlife, if that's what you are into. I'd recommend hitting up Da Conch Shack multiple times. The diving there is awesome, though it is a bit of a boat ride (typically at least 1 hour) to most of the good spots.

Grand Cayman is a great place to visit. 7 mile beach is gorgeous. Great scuba and snorkeling very close to shore. Pretty decent food - my recommendation would be Vivine's (get the lobster fritters). Stay away from Georgetown, it's a terrible tourist trap.

If your looking for a relaxing island, with no beggers on the beaches, then Aruba it is.

It's not a party Island, its about 100% relaxing on some of the best beaches in the World.

I like Little Cayman. Especially for diving. Check out Little Cayman Beach Resort. They will treat you like royalty on your dive trips and once you get back you have an island that's less touched by the commercial world.

St John and T&C are the best I've been too. Malcolm Beach on Provo is unworldly, but St John as an island is better. Not to mention you have the BVI's in your backyard... Soggy Dollar, The Baths, etc. Someone else mentioned Exuma and we're actually going there for the first time in January. From my research, it has the potential to be my new favorite. I'm the kind though that likes the beachside dive bars and restaurants over anything formal so just depends on preference. Exuma is also relatively easy and cheap to get to. Take a cheap Southwest or JetBlue flight into Nassau and catch a 40 min flight into GGT. You can also fly direct to GGT from Atlanta, Miami, and maybe another hub or two.

Was there last year if you want to relax and just enjoy a amazing beach this is the place. Not much night life, or tourist things to do, but damn it's a great expensive place to see a bit of heaven. My review is in the pinned thread.

After staying at about eight All Inclusives all over the Carribean, I've stopped visiting them. I'd rather go to a Four Seasons (for example) and eat on the premises a quarter of the time and off-site the remainder of meals. The cost is close and the clientele at the hotel is usually more interesting and diverse (in a good way). Plus you get authentic off-site meals and see organic culture. I rent a car but using taxis would work too.

Provo in T&C has wonderful cuisine & even Mrs. Füt felt extremely safe there. Grand Cayman and Aruba are good and safe as well.

Good luck-

Yeah, an all-inclusive is not something that interests me. We prefer to do VRBO, rent a jeep and actually experience the island we are on.

That is what I loved about St. Barths. In the off season, its a tremendous vacation. Rent a villa, they almost all have killer views and pools, start morning with a croissant, pack a cooler, ride through gorgeous scenery to beach of one's choosing, a simple lunch and spend afternoon watching sun set before going out to dinner or cooking.

Going back next summer, cant wait. Is a bit of a pain to get to, but once there it is very worth it.
