Spinoff from the BVI bareboat thread...

I've done a bareboat charter in the BVI three times now. Love it, but it seems to be getting more popular with social media. We went in June which is low season, and while it wasn't packed, it certainly wasn't empty either.

What are some other destinations with similar sailing, beaches, snorkeling, bars, etc as the BVI but are still relatively light on big tourist populations?

I'd love to go to Croatia or Belize.

I have no idea of what is actually available, but after spending a week in Seattle last summer I think Puget sound would be a great place to do it in the summer. You can easily catch crab for dinner, weather is nice for a summer, water is cold, whale watch, get away from people, stop in Seattle, etc.

Puget Sound
I was in the San Juan Islands last year talking with some folks who live (or have vacation homes) there. They also have cruisers. The bottoms there are unforgivingly hard rock and there's some treacherous tides, currents and other conditions. I'd be surprised if there's much of a bareboat business there because of the level of nautical difficulty in navigating the area.

Maybe rent a house out on the San Juans that comes with an open boat.

The Adriatic is similar except warmer, possibly less adverse marine weather there.

There Croatian coast is very active with sail charters. There is a reliable afternoon wind and there are so many islands and small bays that you can have your own private beach every day.

The popular mooring sites have beach bars and restaurants, and sole can be quite full.
