Austin TX and Southwest USA in general....for kids.

My oldest daughter is 12. A year ago her best friend moved to Austin. So I promised I would drive her out there this summer and let her spend a week with the friend in Austin.
I am thinking about bringing my other two kids (11 and 9) along. Drop off Daughter #1 and spend a week on the road with the other two kids. Am I going to run out of things to do and see? I can make a pretty big loop in a week. Just no idea what to do or where to go.
My first ideas are:
1) Big Bend camping for a couple of days
2) The Alamo
3) A shitload of water parks where they serve alcohol
Appreciate any other ideas!

schlitterbahn you can bring a cooler. it is recommend you don't bring alcohol, and they check at the gate (mainly for glass). mix up something with liquor and put it in an inconspicuous container

We do this every summer to see our friends in Austin and I use to live down there.
For family(also cool with just adults)-
Hamilton Pool(Austin)
Barton Springs
Krause Springs
Zilker Park
New Braunfels- Gruene, float Comal(better for families than Guadelupe), Shlitterbahn(they serve alcohol)
Adults
Gruene as well. We do a winery there then dinner
Fredericksburg- 30+ wineries, brewery, distillery. Go hike Enchanted Rock
San Antonio is cool for kids, but i wouldnt spend to much time there. Walk around the river walk, grab lunch, see the Alamo and maybe the mexican market, get out.

Enchanted Rock is a two hour drive and kids absolutely love it. Longhorn Caverns is a bit closer to Austin. Park your car (Austin) and walk the trail to Sculpture Falls for swimming. Or just go to Barton Creek.Or both. Take them to Oasis for dinner. Go to the Whole Foods downtown. Walk around Lady Bird Lake and find a kayak/canoe/paddle board. Kids love Austin.

All good recs. Oasis area is very cool.
Also, dont forget the bats at night downtown. My kids loved that plus its really cool

I looked it up...help me out: What exactly do the kids love about this place? All I am seeing is a big pink rock hill to hike on and some walk in camping? I know Fredricksburg is supposed to be nice. But what is the draw to Enchanted Rock?
Thanks for your help. This all looks interesting.

kids love to climb up things. You walk up a gigantic rock that implausibly rises up in the valley, surrounded by a gorgeous 360 view as far as the eye can see. At the top there are pools of water and wild flowers and places to explore . My kids always found this to be the highlight of trips to Texas Hill Country . If you go you will understand .

I agree. we love the hill country. Always great views, great food spots, country stores, and hiking trails.
There are also lots of state parks in that region. My kids just like being outdoors and playing as do we, but i it may not be for everyone.
Enchanted Rock was a lot of fun and very cool to be at the top of.

Um. Tex-Mex food and beer.
There are a lot of baseball stadiums in Texas.
You could take them to Santa Fe if you don't mind driving a lot.

That wildlife safari looks interesting. I want to take them to Africa one day. That would be a cool tour.
I wonder why there aren't any real, authentic "Africa in Texas" safari experiences? Seems like some wealthy Texas oil man would get tired of making that long trip to Africa and would convert his 30,000 acre high fence ranch. Complete with tent camps, open topped jeeps, and and lions roaring at night....

not sure, i just work here, lol.
they have smaller ones around the state.
Found this one in Johnson City, halfway between Austin and Fredericksburg.
LINK
Lots of cool stuff around that part too. LBJ is from that area and there is a museum somewhere out there.

Cool art in Santa Fe, like everywhere.

Art is boring. And people who geek out on art are dorks.
We are a family of rednecks. We like to kill it and grill it. And drink heavily while doing so.
Maybe we can do one of those wildlife ranches where you feed the animals, and then pick out one to be slaughtered while you wait. My kids would think that is awesome.

I'm trying to come up with a response to this. But I just can't.
