I just got offered tickets for the LSU at AU game. I'm sure most hotels are booked, but where should I try to stay? What should we do/what is there to do in Auburn? How does parking on game day work?

Any info on the town/school/night life would be appreciated.

Probably get more responses on the rant. Made the trip a few years ago and stayed in Montgomery. Not much to do there....

Auburn has a nice campus and a decent tailgate scene. Traffic was congested like you'd expect but not terrible. Sorry but can't remember exactly how the parking worked.

We've stayed in Columbus, GA before. Better hotel options and not as congested as Montgomery.

Are you planning a weekend trip or what?

If you don't have an rv and are looking hotels, you've got a couple options. You can check Opelika area or just stay in Montgomery. It's only 30-45 min to auburn. Not a bad drive.

Parking in game day is find a yard to pay to park in or you can park on the side of the road and walk.

Drury Inn MontgomeryWe always stay at the Drury in Montgomery. Hotel is right off I-85. The free drinks and hot food in the evening, and the free breakfast in the morning are both outstanding. Oversized room suites are very comfortable.

Check the Auburn/Opelika travel and tourism website. They typically have a list (updated weekly) of hotels in the area that have openings, along with rates and minimum stays.

We try to stay at the Hampton Inn at exit 58 when we are aren't driving back to Atlanta after the game. If everything in the immediate area is booked, I would check up 85 into Georgia, around Lagrange - easier trip than driving 280 from Columbus.

If you get into Auburn early enough on Friday, check out the "Football, Fans & Feathers" show at the raptor center. They freeflight several of the different birds that they have there, and you get much closer than you do with the eagle flying pregame.

Otherwise, Auburn is your typical small town college town - dominated by the school and campus. A lot of the nightlife has been moved away from downtown as the businesses that have been going in around Toomer's Corner have been becoming more family friendly.

Gameday parking is a mix. You can park at certain places on campus to tailgate, but a good deal of the inner campus is off limits to parking. You can find pay lots (expect to pay $20-$30 for LSU weekend) on the edges of campus - especially along East Magnolia. Check out the churches on East Magnolia between Gay Street and Ross Street. You can also park in the University "hayfield" lots at South College and Donahue for free and either walk (a good hike) to take a shuttle to the campus.

What? This isn't true. Yeah Toomer's has become a little more family friendly with the closing of the Vault but literally every other bar is still open and a new one called Avondale opened up downtown as well.

Skybar, Bourbon (LSU typical spot on their weekend), 1716, Quixotes, Moe's BBQ, Little Italy's, The Hound, and Avondale all have bars open until 12am at least on GameDay weekends with majority open until 2am.
